Hyundai Tucson Cloth Interior different?

I have an appointment to do a 2006 Hyundai Tucson later this week.

The lady tells me the interior is really nasty and stained on the seats from her kids eating in the car all the time. I ask her if it is leather or fabric upholstery and she says it's cloth, but not really like regular cloth. She says "some sort of state of the art fabric".

Hmmm ... "state of the art fabric" ....

Anybody work on cloth interior on a Hyundai Tucson?

Any special treatment suggested or needed?

Thanks in advance.

A quick google search didn't pull up anything out of the ordinary..Sounds like she is just re-stating what some dealer idiot told her.

Friend of mine owns a hyundai dealership.. he's telling me its firm and spongy, not plush. Should be easy to clean I'd think. (easier than plush deep staining cloth)

I really doubt the cloth is anything new or different. Hyundai is moving up fast, but they're far from cutting edge. They're still in their "copying" stage, so if it's in a Hyundai, most likely you will have dealt with something similar before in a Japanese car. I wouldn't be worried too much about the material. Just follow your usual interior process. But with anything, you want to do a small test spot first just to be on the safe side.

Ya no kidding! you see their new SUV? can't remember the name now but its a blatent rip off of the Lexus RX330/350. It's hilarious, I can't wait until Hyundai starts generating their own ideas, its about time they start.

That's not fair. The previous generation Sonata was kind of Jaguar-esqe, but the current (2006-on) has its own look, and by the reviews is just a hair off the (2006) Accord and Camry. Funnily enough, I got Car & Driver yesterday, and they showed the 2008 Accord...which looks an awful lot like the Sonata! So who is copying who? However, I'm sure the Accord has leapfrogged the Sonata with a lot of features/goodness.

Looks like it may be the kind of fabric that is an all or nothing cleaning.. meaning no spot cleaning.

Some of these fabrics if you spot treat a problem area it will leave a watermark and you need to do the whole seat to get it to look right... wonder if this is similar?

I guess I'll start with Megs APC at 10:1 and go from there ....

If you do not have a carpet extractor, I would suggest a foaming type cleaner. Stoner's makes a foam cleaner for cloth and upholstery. These new low nap synthetic fabrics absorb liquid quickly and can take forever to dry if the moisture is not removed.

Yea the new fabrics I will atest to are friggin impossible to clean. Not sure about Hundyi's but I've had 3 Ford F-150's come in (2005,2006 range) and the fabric is just impossible to deal with. the stains just won't lift. My 07 avalanche also has difficult upholstry being all microsuede. I don't know what the car companies are thinking lately but they are quickly becoming a complete pain in my arse. Dodge Ram's are the same for 07 now as well.

:D fine fine, i shouldn't have made it a blanket statement. But that new VeraCruz or whatever is a blatent rip off of the RX330.. its not subtle at all. hahaha

The Japanese car builders started off the same way...imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and all...and look at them now...bloated and having the same problems the Big Three did! Seriously, it's all a big cycle, in 10 years (or less) we'll be complaining about the Chinese cars being copies of the Korean cars...of course, we won't be able to afford to buy cars here by that time...and we'll be doing low-priced goods for the Chinese market (well, maybe that's in 20 years). Of course, I have been called a cynic...:D

ok this is my last off topic post i promise :D but have you seen some youtube video's of chinese cars failing crash tests? absolutely horrid. Apparently they sell these crap cars to unsuspecting Russians. We're talking 40km/h hit barrier and the entire front half of the car (including the driver) gets crumpled into a heap.

Back on topic. I hear ya about the new fabrics. My 04 Sentra interior is difficult to get right. I've never successfully gotten it to look the way i want. I get stains out, but it leaves weird water marks that don't seem to come off. :(

That's what I was talking about in my above post... I have found that with these kind of fabrics the only way to get the seat looking right is to do the entire seat - no spot cleaning
