Hurricane Sandy

Well we got a mandatory evacuation call last night about 6PM and we vacated shortly after that. Kind of weird the place is like a ghost town. Major traffic on the route out of my neighborhood. Most people took all their vehicles to avoid getting them flooded out so the traffic was extra heavy.

I took my trucks to deal with any nonsense (trees, floods). Had to leave the M behind, I should have EXO-ed my undercarrage! Yikes..........Guess the coating will get quite a workout. The good news is I polished the windshield on the M Saturday and applied the Smart Glass G1/G2 kit. Review to follow after the storm.

Oh well, nothing I can do now except hope that the storm track changes. Left my family at my sister in law's they live in-land and on a hill so they are high and dry, just hoping the power stays on.

I hope the rest of you are all safe and sound.

Here in Arlington, VA its getting pretty dicey with wind and rain. DC is pretty much on lock down with absolutely nothing open....Didn't stop me from getting my ritual ice coffee from Dunkin D's....yum. Everyone be safe thats in the affected area, we are hunkering down.

Well, it's been blowing and raining all day. We have had a few gusts but to tell you the truth it's like I said.....the numbers just don't add up for the MONSTER storm everyone's been predicting....

Historic tidal flooding. Wicked seas. Amazingly strong winds. The eye passed right over us. But still, so glad we didn't heed the evac warnings. This will be a story to tell for ages.
 
It looks like it did get pretty bad for some out there and I'm fortunate to have been spared much of what I'm looking at this morning....:(

leaving work last night at 12am was a friken mess. lot was like soup with snow/rain mix. shoes and socks got soaked to the bone. being they were not really calling for snow, i did not put a snow brush in the vehicle. big mistake. 5" of frozen crap on the windshield. hands and arm cleaned that off (ouch). main hiway was not too bad. mostly slush. i was glad to walk thru the front door.......

We were pretty lucky. Power stayed on (half the county lost power), and the basement stayed dry. As an added bonus, Sandy kindly pointed out a leak in the roof I didn't know about. :)
 
Hey just checking in. Haven't been online in days really. no wifi at the house (at mcdonalds right now)

I live in the center of long island (nassau / suffolk border). so no flooding in my area. but no power for days now

here is how a detailer gets by after a storm

my honda generator for mobile work has been a lifesaver. Been getting a lot of use from my brinkmann light and fenix headlamp.

cleaned off a few of my clients cars following the storm. also been getting a few crazy calls from new clients who took on water. Unfortunately I don't know much about fixing major water damage. So I sympathize with them but not much else I can do.

will keep checking back. hope everyone else is ok here (didn't read the first few pages - catching up on a lot of online stuff right now)
 
It was definitely fun here on long island...

My yard is DESTROYED as is my block. Tons of cars totalled, tree's obliterated and wires galore. Over this storm is just one big pita. My area has been without power for over 5 days now (Natural Gas generator FTW). This storm was just ridiculous though an now gas shortages!

those pics are insane. I assume you're closer to the water. I took a ride to the south shore day after the storm and it looked like the pics you have there.

day 6 with no power. LIPA telling us 3 or 4 more days

doing my best to conserve gas and not have to fill during this gas station mayhem. its insane. mile long lines, cops at every station that has gas. People sleeping in their cars at pumps waiting for a truck to show. scary stuff.
