HP wars...what will Ford do next?

well said... I should have clarified on the GT500 reference.. I meant the GT (not mustang) halo car. SVT would've done a much better job on that car, it is a major let down for car fans in general I think. For the price you're not getting world class performance, just a cool looking nostalgia design and some uniqueness. I'd hate to have paid for that thing what some people did only to get my *** handed to me by a guy rolling a Z06 for roughly half the price.

I agree that the 5.0 stangs were beasts, more recently I think Ford has lost its way... I just don't think the last few generations of mustangs have compared well to their competition. With the death of the Fbodies on GM's side it seems Ford got lazy and didn't push the envelope. Now with the Camaro coming back and being pushed by an LS2 (or LS3 hopefully) that should reignite the fire under Fords ***.

I will disagree with the motors. I don't think there is a more widely accepted, loved, and versitile platform than the GM LSx. Pound for pound it is the BEST pushrod engine to come from any manufacture. Sure there are those big "halo" offerings from Dodge and Ford, but the LSx platform across the board has more aftermarket support, more factory support, and more fan base than anything from the other 2. Its the reason the LS1/LS2 continue to dominate the rod and custom scene, and why its repeatedly the choice for weekend warrior type racers. The GM backed LSx shootout recnetly is a perfect showcase of how great the motor is.

In any event I guess we should all just be proud of what the US manufactures can turn out when properly motivated. The muscle wars may slowly be grinding to an end, but they sure are fun regardless of what side you're on.

I remember back in the late 80's and early 90's (i'm 37) the F body Mustang ruled the roost. Other than the Buick Grand National and Vette, there wasn't much (American that is) that would run with a 5.0 Mustang. Heck, I don't think that Mopar was even in the game then. Are any of you old enough to remember the SVO Mustang?

There are so many changes that are going on today, it will be very interesting to see what Ford does.

I remember the SVO Stang, T-Bird Turbo Coupe (Used SVO's motor), and Mark VII LSC (Essentially a gussied up Mustang GT).

As for your statement, you may be accurate if it was an LX 5.0. Heck, that's why the SS4s (Police versions) were LX 5.0s. The GTs had more additional weight.

But the GNs actually ruled the roost more than the 5.0s because there were plenty of 5.0s that got shelled in races against GNs. On the flip side, Corvettes were getting shelled as well by GNs. Plus, it appears you are talking about L98 Corvettes and Camaros/T/As which had the same hp/tq figures as an '87 GN.

Well, at the half century mark, I have had a 1972 Z-28, w/Lt-1, 4 speed and 4:10 gear, a 1980 Z with the puke 350 and another 1981 Z with a double puke 350, (first dropped piston rings, 2nd dropped a cam shaft) oh - and 1979 Trans Am w/301? mini mouse and screaming chicken on the hood. All those except the 1972 (for it's rarity) are begging for the recycle bin.

Fast forward to 2010, I have a 15 year old daughter that wants a Mustang, and after checking them out, I'm not sure if I should wait for the 2011 v6 w/305 HP and 30 mph or just get a great deal on the 2010 w/old 4.0 v6 (lower hp AND mpg)

My daughter is very smart, great student, and I love her more than life, but she drives slower than my Dad did when he was in is late 80's! So, I know she won't be hot roddin down the road like that stupid red neck daddy of hers did.
