how's business

I'm booked solid for the next 2 months straight, and the phone calls and emails keep coming. The timing of the AutoWeek article and my new website couldn't have been better! :)

The winter was relatively dead for me and the few cars that I did have the opportunity to do, I couldn't because the water in my garage was frozen. Things are starting to pick up now though with my new job at Ferrari/Maserati and I'm starting to get more and more visitors to my site/phone calls. The weather is much warmer now so I have faith that things will pick up here in a week or 2...

3 a week is booming? I won't even talk to a dealer unless they put it in writing a garunteed 10 a week for smaller dealerships and 15 a week for larger ones. I'd go back and have a talk with your dealer and see if they can up their quota to you. Unless of course 3 a week actually pays the bills for you.

i said 3 a week wholsale jake. the nice thing for me is, i work out of my house. very little overhead. i got chemicals, insurance, and other set small stuff! think about this i do three wholesale corrections ranging from 200- to 300. now thats on a low end 600 a week now i do about 10 to 15 headlight restorations at 40 a pair. on a low end thats 400. now when i do some pdr work usally i get about 20-25 panels a week at 35 a panel. thats on the low end. thats 700 now if i do a few full retail corrections at we will just say 450 thats 900. that gives me roughly that gives me 2000 a week. now im not even gonna mention glass repair! so many people in this business look at detailing as just a getting the car clean and perfect they forget about that small fast things that make money fast! with very little overhead! somtimes bigger isn't better. hence look at the large dealerships folding because there living off old money. todays car market is tuff. its not like it was 4 years ago. thats for sure. if you educate your clientle your gonna make money. you got to play your area. for me i live in a town where 8000 cars a week roll threw an auto auction. so i have dealers from all over sending me dent repair work like its going out of style. there are times where i have to farm out some of my little work. but look at it this, its all how hard do you really wanna work and are you properly marketing all your skills. i seen some of your work and its great. no doubt there. your a good guy from what i seen. just imagine if you would take the time and learn a few other things to make extra money. all of a sudden buffering cars looks a little different to ya. like those guys who own these tunnel car washes that we all bash and hate. seriously on an average day they get in my area 20 a car. for what doing nothing!!!! the car runs threw a tunnel they say thanks have a great day. now the have 100 cars run threw that wash tunnel that 2000 a day. are they crazy now? i don't think so. i also thank them for giving me work after the swirls apear and i correct them. business is business. im gonna put food on my kids plate anyway i can. ill be the first to admit i love my job, but im gonna work smarter not harder!!!! good luck. hopefully you understand my booming now with three wholesale jobs!!!!!!! good luck man!

Awesome barry. You enlighten me on several things there. I didn't realize the PDR was so cheap. I would think that's a harder skill to learn. I know the PDR guys around here get about $150-$300 per dent they pull out. (or however they do it) But man if you can whip them out like that I can see it being a huge cash cow. I would love to venture into that market (and it's coming as well as other aspects to be mentioned a little later) I love your outlook on things. I can make $2000 a week busting my hump off detailing in the summers. But just adding a few quick things here and there making that mark might come alot easier. I think you got your thumb on the pulse of things very nicely. I think you're going to be able to teach alot of people alot of things on here.

pdr is tough, but around here its flood hence supply and demand! ill admit i do vlume work and quality work i try to work bith fields the best i can!!! don't get me wrong i love fast money, but if some one pays me to do my best well d@mn look out ill transform your car to new heights you never thought possible!!!!!

good luck!
