How well does Zaino actually protect?

I don't know if you guys remember but I did Bglmn's vette a while ago and then did his van or should I say bus shortly after.

I deleted the links since they didn't work.

Well jack stops in to see me once in a while and happened to stop in today to drop off a bag of bagel for us (Thanks Jack) and mentions to me that somebody hit his car with an egg. I say, ahh man, that sucks, when did it happen? He says it was a while ago and its still there. I say WHAT? He says, do you think this can hurt my paint? And I say YES, and proceed to walk around to the drivers side door to see egg running all down the door. I say OH MY GOD, let me get this off. So I grab a mf and some waterless wash and proceed to let it soak and wipe, let it soak and wipe.... and finally get it all off and to my and Jacks amazement, the paint was perfect. It happened on mischief night and sat for weeks or months and the Zaino protected it from etching the paint. I do not suggest trying this and cannot guarentee it will work this way for you but to our amazment Zaino saved the day. Great work Sal. The bagels were excellent Jack. Thanks.

Anyway, I thought this was worth a mention.

that sounds a little hard to believe, no offence

May be hard to believe but it's the truth. You can see the concentric rings as the shell cuts into the paint as it breaks up. Look closely and you'll become a believer as well.

I can't see what this proves? There isn't anything in an egg that will hurt the paint (besides the shell). On the other hand I've heard of Zaino users topping with a Carnauba wax to provide better protection from bird bombs etc...

The shells may create a problem but the main problem with an egg assault is the lytic enzymes that are contained in the egg's yolk. I am quite surprised that any LSP withstood this assault and the person should consider themself luck that no damage (etching) occurred.

Normally Zaino or any LSP can not fight off these enzymes after a long exposure (hrs).

Eggs are a double whammy. Not only do the shells do a job of (usually) creating a ton of little dotted concentric circle paint chips, as blkZ28Conv said, the liquid part of the egg will stain. My previous (dark blue) car got nailed on Halloween and I washed off all that I saw but I missed one until the next day (or maybe another day) which left a permanent stain that I was never able to remove and was still on the car when I got rid of it many years later.

That's a lot more believable than egg shells scratching the clear coat.....

Someone needs to do a test.....Hammer a hood with a few eggs before a Menzerna IP just for the hell of it.......

I want to see some before and afters......

You're kidding, right? We're all just making this up? I couldn't find any good egg damage pics of my old car, but they looked just like the ones in this thread: http://autopia.org/forum/car-detailing/76017-egg.html?highlight=egg , cuz that's what egg splats look like...

Damn.....I stand corrected.......:hifive:

I always thought the enzymes did the most damage to the clear coat. My daughters X boyfriend egged our house last year and I had a mess to clean up on glass and trim and siding and gutters....The yokes were the last stains to go.

Those pictures of the egg impact were very convincing......Thanks for setting me straight....

I've had two cars egged. One, my Chevelle with a single stage paint job protected by Rain Dance (yeah, that is what I used in the early 80s!) and my Accord, with Meguiars #26. In both cases, the only damage was done by the eggs shells shattering on the paint. Neither substained any staining. Both hit during the night, cleaned the next day.

I'm going to consider this incident a fluke. I have seen the chemical damage (egg yolk) wiped off with minimal/no damage assuming it was done quickly (ASAP), but I fear the physical impact of egg shell cutting into the paint. In my opinion, it does not matter the brand of LSP nor the # of layers - 99% of the time egg shell is cutting through. Raise your glasses, toast, and drink up - your buddy witnessed a miracle.

Memorable Quotes from

Pulp Fiction (1994)

Jules: We should be f&^*$%' dead now, my friend! We just witnessed a miracle, and I want you to f$#%&ing acknowledge it!

Vincent: Okay man, it was a miracle, can we leave now?

I don't what I find stranger.... the fact that it didn't leave any damage, or that the guy didn't bother to at least wash or hose it off his Corvette :nixweiss
