How to use the orange pad with PC

I have the orange Advanced VC pad from CMA. I can't figure out how to use this pad. It is even harder than the yellow compounding pad. I can't really press it down into the surface. It doesn't absorb water well, so bits of polish and water fling out. It doesn't soften with use and "load up nicely" so I can't really do a nice "final burnishing" as the polish breaks down and dissipates. I don't have a good idea of how well it cuts or marrs because I can never quite spread the polish evenly.

Any tips for using this pad?

I bought a couple of the orange pads but have not used one yet. I did a "search" with "orange" as the topic and it produced a few threads about these pads.

I'd still be interested to hear some fresh opinions on these pads, though.

I never was satisfied with the performance of the VC pads on the PC. But the pads really came into their own when used with a rotary. Personally, I think CMA misrepresents them when they promote use with a PC.

I've used the orange VC pad a few times with a PC and I'm not a big fan of the design either.Unless you push down real hard or go over a lot of rounded corners you have a lot of polish that ends up in the inner cup that isn't being applied to the finish.

VC pads just don't do it for me either... As '04BlackAV' mentions, you have to push down extremely hard to use that orange pad on flat surfaces - too hard for my liking!

I much prefer to use flat pads, but that's just me.

ME TOO.

I can't go over 4.5 on my PC with them. They tear around the velcro backing.

I really like these orange pads. I use the orange pads all the time, but i haven't experience any of these problems. I apply a small x (of IP or FP2) in the middle of the pad and use normal pressure with the pc on 5-6. For me they do soften up with water and usage. Make sure the backing plate your using is smaller than the black velcro on the back of the pad. I've tried them with the rotarty but IMO they are a little small.

I agree with the majority on this pad. However . . . I do have good success with the 4" orange pad I got from TOL. I don't know if it's the same material as the larger CMA pad but when I'm using it to remove scratches it does a great job. It gives just enough cut, doesn't waste product and does soften as it's being used.
