How to treat the "hidden" area?

Hope this is the correct forum for this. I just bought a Toyota SR5 pickup. My question is, how are you supposed to wash, wax, etc. the area that is between the pickup bed and rear wall of the truck? Seems to be about an inch clearance there...is there anything that they make for this, or is this area left alone.?

Thanks...

Jack.

I leave it alone. I will disavow any knowledge of knowing about that dirty little area.

Actually it is a good question and look forward to any useful hints.

I also have a Toyota tundra sr5 truck, and I just dont worry about it. I clean it with the pressure washer every once in a while, and as a matter of fact, that is the only area I dont clean. I just got done cleaning and shining my undercarrage(pics later). Dont worry about it, there are some areas that dont have to be cleaned.

For a regular customer that I do....I brought a toliet brush that I attached to the end of a wooden broom handle....kind of a make shift thing for this job...sprayed water in then soap...scrubbed up and rinced....as for wax I have no clue for that one....maybe a spray wax coated in there...I've never done anything but just clean it...however for a truck owner I would not be without my makeshift brush

I usually just wash and wax whatever i reach by hand and leave it like that. However, there is a wash brush that is designed to fit in there but I can't recall what company it's from. If I find it I'll let you know.

Edit- I found it at Proper Auto Care under detailing tools and applicators and brushes

Would one of those "Swiffer"s fit between those two areas? They're supposed to be good for wiping messes off of floors. If a broom handle can fit, then it seems that a Swiffer could be used to swipe the entire area. Another one could be used to apply/buff off wax.

I always clean that area of my truck with an "out of use" wash mitt, attached to a dowel rod I found in the garage. Much like Beemer, it's makeshift, but it does get the job done. I hold the wash mitt on with a few big sized rubber bands. I don't wash this area every time, only when I feel like it needs to be cleaned. I also have to change the rubber bands occasionally, because they "rot" off.

FWIW, this technique does not work on a couple of other trucks I have cleaned, because the space between the bed and cab is smaller than that on my truck. The whole mitt & dowel just wouldn't fit.

Would this be a place for P21S Total Body Wash?
I use S100 Total Cycle Cleaner, (which seems to be pretty much the same thing), to clean engine compartment areas I can't reach. Seems to do a pretty good job of cleaning and rinses without leaving any residue. Fortunately for me, my stuff is usually not that dirty so I don't know how it would do on accumulated grime.

take a 1X6 and place a wash mitt over one end, then stuff a couple of MF inside mitt to bulk it out.

All the more reason to the the dump bed modification :stick

I agree with Charles and use S100 TCC in the area betwee the cab and bed. I spray the S100 tcc, let dwell for minute or two the rinse. Works well for regular maintenance, and for almost all trucks short of 100 point show trucks.

Yeah, taking the bed off would be a significant amount of work. If it was removed and the area in question was detailed properly & thoroughly, it would only need to be washed regularly (see other suggestions for washing) & another thorough detailing would not be needed for years.

Unless your truck is a show truck, it is IMO idiotic to even consider removing the bed and cleaning that area. I just spray a APC and rinse with a pressure washer. By the time that area becomes noticeably worse in appetence then the rest of the truck, you will most likely not own the truck anymore.

We quite possibly may have discovered a new definition of "anal"!

I wash what I can reach and see with a mitt and my fingers. The rest goes under the category of "things I really don't need to worry about"

WHAT?? Didn't anyone think my idea of the dump-bed modification was cool? I mean we're talking dual-purpose here...easy access to the undercarriage for proper cleaning and dump truck-like bed emptying capabilities :lmfao  ;)
