How to store a car for 1 year????? HELP!

I'd recommend the use of Stabil Marine and at double strength in the gas. Be sure to top off the gas. I'd definitely use a car cover. I'd also plant several boxes of d-CON or similar rodent killer around the car, both inside and out, in the trunk and under the hood. Mice can make a real mess of your car if they decide to make it home. I leave my vehicle on it's tires but over-inflate them to a few pounds less than their maximum. If the car will sit through both summer and winter temps don't over-inflate to the max in the winter. I'd also do a detail and add a sealant and top with a heavy wax like 845 or Megs #16 or #26. Push some steel wool pads in your exhaust and air intake prior to closing it up. Buy some visqueen vapor barrier and put down several layers under your vehicle to prevent moisture from leaching up. If you can spray some wd40 under your bushings and unprotected metal components in the undercarriage. Take your battery out and put it on a battery maintainer.

Ah, good to know because I have to go out and buy some Stabil probably this week as my garage queens are running low on fuel. It can take 6 months plus to use most of it up.



Does Stabil Marine have more gasoline preservative in it?





Also, for anyone storing a car for months and months and placing something in the exhaust to block rodents, etc., be sure to leave a note to yourself on the dash reminding you remove it when you go to use it again. Otherwise, :soscared:

Hey,a farwell "thanks!" to the bot for reviving this thread while something was fresh in mind:



I'd stashed the '84 RX-7 in the corner of my shop back in...oh....maybe 2005. No fuel stabilizer :eek: All I did was pump the tires up to about 50 psi and put a Battery Tender on it. It *is* climate-controlled, including the humidity, but I sure didn't "store it properly" (scare-quotes intentional ;) ).



A dealer pal of mine saw it and decided to take it (gee, I didn't have to do the interior!) so we debated what to do and finally just decided we felt lucky. Spun the engine for a bit with no fuel delivery (for a half-@$$ed prelube), then just started it.



No problems. None. Drove just fine too. Same as when I mothballed the Jag for a few years. Guess I'm just lucky, and yeah..those old rotaries will almost run on aftershave, but I simply never have problems from extended storage, even without stabilizer :nixweiss



OK, OK..."Don't try this at home, kids!"



The S8 got its last fillup early last December; I'll be getting it back on the road soon and we'll see if my luck holds.
 
I'm too much of a worry wart to not use the stabilizer. I even use it in my gas powered tools. My mentality is ," if ( crap's) gonna happen, it's gonna happen to me" :chuckle:





So the RX-7 is off to a hopefully new good home ?
 
Bill D- Well, it's going into inventory and I'm hopeful that it'll go to a good home. The RX-7 *will* be a really nice piece for the right person though. If I could heel-and-toe in it (my legs're much bigger than they were back when I had my '81, too big to H&T) I woulda kept it and driven the wheels off the thing.



Just soooo cool that it still smelled like brand-new, and it was maybe $1000 away from being seriously concours competitive. Could probably win most any Regional show just as it sits now; worse stuff wins Class at Glenmoor every year and that was where I'd planned to show it.
