How to start....

How did you guys start out in the bus.? I would really like to start working in the bus. and would like to hear any tips/tricks on how to start out? I don't want to do anything major at the moment like starting a bus., just want to suppliment my income while doing something I love.

Thanks

SouthernZ71, you can pm me as well. i'm based out of Kenner and have been in biz for 10 years now. we've got an entirely different kind of clientele to deal with down here. very few are willing to pay what a really good detail job is worth.

It is more then just handing out flyer etc. The best 300 bucks, well i got if off ebay for 150, was the rightlook.com training stuff. It was 3 videos and 2 thick ring bind folders. It has everything from checklist, price list, chemicals, exact steps to use and everything. Other then that anything you want to know is already on the board just search for it. It takes some time, but if you are well organized you can pull it off.

Also dont let anyone discourage you. you will have some people say you cant just run a business. I respect anyone who does, but facts are this is a sing man operation business you want to do on the side. You dont have to be a scientist to do so. all you need is a nice layout to follow and then do what it says. That is how come i love the product i used. A little pricey, but it helped alot. I saw one on ebay like a few weeks ago, for only 40 bucks.

Also if you dont want to shed the money, you can always just do some research of what you need etc. I think the hardest part is actually getting the knowledge of how to do the work in think

Spend some time reading through the threads in this forum. There is a wealth of information here. After that, anything you feel was not covered adequately, ask!

quamen,

This is a very important issue. You will most likely have some people who will try to convince you that your plans and business startup methods will not succeed. Have no part of that. Do not listen to those people. They have no idea what they are talking about.

Usually most negative people will continue to tell you it can't be done until they have convinced themselves that it can't be done.

You can if you think you can. Those are my words to you!

Thanks guys for the help and encouragement. The MAIN reason I started thinking about doing detailing on the side IS this site. A few years ago I started thinking about it cause I was washing the neighbors cars and such, then when I started to branch it fell apart. As sonnydaze said its hard to get people to pay for detailing. However, they WILL pay someone to wash and dry at a local drive-thru.

Thanks again for the help....

I'm interested in getting started as well. Unfortunately I didn't find Autopia until last October or November, and in Michigan that does me no good until maybe March. I've done one car so far, my boss's. She wants it done again in the spring and hopefully I'll be able to get the ball rolling then.
