How to sell an Autopian car

The new car purchase and used car trade in should be separate transactions. Negoiate the new car purchase first. If they ask if you're going to trade in, just say "maybe". Then negoiate the used car trade in value. If you combine both transactions, the dealer can play the numbers game on you and you'll never know what hit you.

I don;t know how different it is in the UK but condition generally makes absolutely no difference to a dealer at all. My dad, brother & girlfriend's mum are about to change cars and I've told all of them to simply wash and vacuum their trade in as it won't make a blind bit of difference.

I have said I'll sort my brother's car for him, as it is a non metallic red which has faded badly (he is not and never will be an autopian I'm afraid!) and this would make a main dealer look at car with a negative view.

The kicker here guys is that my ex traded in a real old smoker some years ago for a nearly new car on a minium £1000 trade-in deal - the smoker had failed power steering and a blown head gasket and was worth virtually nothing - did we tell the dealer....?

Oh and the new car went back for re-cleaning 7 times (way before I became an autopian I hasten to add)
