How to restore exterior window trim?

I drive an 03 350z and teh outside window trim is starting to get brown stains. What are these? Look like little water spots but are brown. I tried brushing them with a little tooth brush with soap and water, some dirt got out but it looks brown still. I bought some 303 aerospace protectant but it doesn't seem to help. Any ideas or products?

Cool, another Z owner. Mine hasn't started doing that yet...I hope it doesn't. Sorry I have no advice for you, just saying hey to another Z owner :D

lol, how's it going? Yeah, been a lurker for awhile. I love my z by the way. Love it even more with the new Jim Wolf technology cluth/flywheel.

do you have a picture or know what it is made from?

I'll try to take a pic. I see this a lot with most cars after 4 years being in the sun. It's not like the smooth black trim. It's getting "browned" i guess from the sun and there are some brown spots.

Yes it's horrible crap.

try and take a close up pic for us

If it's urethane, high gloss plastic or hard rubber, you can treat it the same way as paint with some non abrasive polishes and glazes.

Glare, fireglaze, ultra gloss, clearkote VM,

What you most likely have is damage from shampoo. Many shampoo's are a little caustic and dry out the material and leave a water spotted brown finish.

sounds like you got it right on the money with the last sentence. It really does try out and get a brow finish. I have a pc 7424, can i use any abrasive finished on it? I'm pretty sure it's urethane..hard rubber. Some of the products i have in the garage is, Pinnacle xmt + 1, 3, Klasse AIO, 3m Perfect it finishing glaze. Maybe i can use one of these products and get the black back and then top it with the 303 aerospace.

AIO may work but it won't have much grunt to it. I would try them by hand first. Its most likely those products you listed may make the finish even worse (turn it grey) and possibly take the top layer off.

What brand shampoo are you using?

If it's meg's 00, gold class etc then you need to change over.

so are you saying none of meg car shampoo is good? even nxt? Any brand that will stop causing this problem?

I just need to get rid of that browning first of all. The thing is, when i put the 303 aerospace over it, the black color came back but the little brown spots was still visable underneath the gloss. It also has a lot of little scratches on the trim. I was thinking of just buying new trim but it's 250 dollars per side.

No disrespect to meg's but I've seen and experienced problems on a variety of paints, both SS, clear, aged and new

soft wash gel left nasty (only a machine could remove) paint fading streaks all over the bonnet of an MG B

Gold class and 00 both caused browning of my trims and loss of slickness

I've had great experience with Jeffs Werkstatt car wash. Jeff guaranteed me that it would not cause that problem you have, on my trims

Not once has it dried out and faded my trims.

There are some others that have the same ability.

Einszett perls is another

The best thing to do is get some aquacheck or other branded PH testing strips

Check the shampoo unmixed with water and also mixed with water.

If you get a reading of 7.0 to 7.7, your trims should be fine

The one ingredient I hate in shampoo's is sodium laureth (aka sodium lauryl) and I'd say a massive percentage of shampoo's have it in them.
