How To: Remove those swirls FOR GOOD! (w/o using fillers)

Whew! I usually do 1/3 of a hood and start working around the car. Front fender > 1/2 hood > side panels. Is that okay? Interesting. 2 feet correct?

2 feet is correct...on cars i usually brake the hood down into 3rds aswell...

I know im getting a lot of crap for this write up but when I started off I was looking for something such as this to remove the swirls on my car...Im just trying to help those who are like I use to be...and give others a nice write up to share what I have learned about the process of removing swirls.

No crap intended at all from anybody I'd bet. this is a great thread to go with the 10000 other swirl removing threads. Everybody has different technique's and product preferences and its great to see them all.

Deuce, I hate to break your bubble but I would not be that happy with pictures 5 & 6 and "final product" if this were my truck, I see plenty of cobwebs. Does't anybody else see it? I know it's nice to say this and that looks good but I don't think you got them out. No disrespect intended here just IMHO.

On those last pics he still has the hood divided into the finished side and unfinished side for comparitive purposes. I think you may be looking at the bad side thinking it's the done side.

Nice write up Deuce, and as a newbie I really appreciate the info and your effort in presenting it. :bigups

My bad, I did not realize the hood was divided, the sun was in the bad part and that's where I looked.

At the same time I would love to prove the nay sayers wrong who say there is no way to remove swirls for good w/o using fillers. This process was done on a 1997 Ford F 150...There were many baked on contaminants and such that needed to be removed prior to removing the swirls.

First, I for one have not really seen anyone state that there is no way to remove swirls unless you use fillers.

Second, those are not swirls, as in buffer swirls, they are halo-scratches.

Lastly, although I still see some marring, all in all it is a nice write up :)

swirls are surface scratches and should be able to be removed with a light to moderate polish-correct? polishes with fillers are for scratches that your not able to completely remove. So IMO some filling ability is a plus especially for daily drivers.

I'm starting to agree with you on that wannafbody. Fillers, and the acceptance of swirls is something that has to be dealt with on a daily driver, especially my non garageable daily driver. Some people on here have said as much, but I guess when you get into the Autopian world it's hard to live with swirls. :(

I live with some swirls only cause I don't want to take off too much clearcoat in the process. I also only really want to remove swirls from my car once a year, in the spring. By the time the fall comes, winter is around the corner, and I don't really keep my car all that clean during the winter unfornately.

Wow, very nice. Based on the above info, I am going to purschase all those products to do my Two 1998 maximas..One small question, can this be all done by hand? Without any electical tools? (Sorry I'm a newbie).

thanks

Don't bother trying to remove swirls by hand. Bite the bullet and buy a PC, because you won't even come close to the results you see in the pics otherwise. Many of the products he describes are for use by machine.

Agreed, some of these products such as IP and PG need to break down and the PC makes this very easy...it would take wayyy too long to do this by hand!
