How to remove super glue

How would u go about getting excess super glue off of paint? It has been there for about a year, but its really starting to get to me now. Im assuming I will need to sand? What grit is best to use for a novice at sanding? How would I polish it back to life?



BTW: Clay won't take this off, neither will PPCL, or any C/W's.
 
There are de-bonders avaliable at any hobby shop. Apply a little to the CA, let it dwell a minute and wipe it off.
 
Acetone or nail polish remover works at dissolving Super glue....



It may take a while if it has been there a while....



I have no idea what it will do to the paint though...:nixweiss
 
I have wondered the same thing as well since I got a dab of super glue on my trunk when reglueing the "Y" in mercury i broke off drying the car.



Maybe Ill try one of those methods tommorow and report back!
 
A buddy of mine who used to mix his own model airplane fuel gave me some nitromethane that I used to remove dried super glue. It worked GREAT and (at least for me) didn't harm the paint at all. It was actually pretty amazing how easily the nitromethane got the super glue off...it just wiped away cleanly.



I believe you can find commercially-available super glue removing chemicals at any hardware store; IIRC these chemicals actually contain small amounts of nitromethane and should work perfectly.



IMHO acetone or any type of alcohol won't do squat for you. And don't even think about sanding...you won't have to do that if you're patient and find the right chemical.
 
Acetone and nail polish remover, many contain acetone, are the only things I've heard that will dissolve superglue. I would try the nitromethane, that someone suggested, before acetone. I would have expected the acetone to be rough on the paint, but on another forum someone used nail polish remover and didn't seem to harm the paint at all. Other forum members were amazed.
 
Well, I guess it's possible that acetone might work, but I didn't wait long enought to find out. The nitromethane took the all of the dried-up super glue off instantly; I suspect that the acetone might take a bit longer or might require a bit of elbow grease. Of course, YMMV.
 
Thanks a lot for all your suggestions. Im gonna make a run to a hardware store and look for somthing that will take it off. :wavey
