How to remove scratches from tint

a client of mine has scratches in the tint. is there a way to fix this without reapplying the tint?

There's no way that I know of to REMOVE scratches from tint, since it's a plastic film and very thin. You can sometimes mask scratches though (depending on location, severity, etc.).



If the scratch is all the way through to the glass, you probably need to replace the tint.

They do make tint pens for scratches but they usually end up looking like someone wrote on your windows with a sharpie.

Plexus does a pretty good job of hiding small scratches, but for big ones, you're going to have to replace the tint unfortuneatly.

Most likely not. Tint is an actual film, so the only way to hide an obvious scratch is to replace it all.

If it was my car I'd give it a shot. After all, I use glaze with fillers on other plastic stuff, like scratched CDs. I wouldn't expect it to be durable though. Maybe the new Swirlbuster polish when it comes out would be better.

With paint, there has to be color behind the scratch still for a glaze to work. No glaze will hide a scratch if it goes through the color coat or down to bare metal. Similarly, a glaze is not going to do anything if the scratch is through the tinted part of the film.

I understand that of course. We've never had a clear answer as to whether the scratches go all the way through the plastic or not. I was going on the presumption they were surface scratches.

I have used meguiar's clear plastic polish (small blue bottle) to remove fingernail detectable scratches in Llumar brand window film with excellent results.



The scratches came from the diamond on my wife's rings while reaching for the seat belt or similar.

The Llumar has a scratch resistant coating, once you are thru you are SOL. You could try a tint pen, or a black marker if the tint is dark(5%) It might not show that much. On lighter tint it will look bad IMHO. You could always try and get a scrap piece of tint from a shop and apply a patch, but it will look like poo as well unless it is really dark.
