How to protect polished aluminum wheels?

What is a good easy to use product that will protect the finish of the polished aluminum lip on my wheels? The lip is NOT clearcoated.



Unfortunately after a heavy rain pour my freshly polished lip gets "dulled" and I have to polish them again.:mad:



I've seen Wheel Wax, Wenol polish (blue tube) and Luster Seal. Which product works best, protects the longest and is easy to use?

Yes I've seen the zoopseal however with a price tag starting at $99.95 its a way out of my price range. Plus the process seems way too involved. I'm sure its worth it but too much time and money for my taste.



I want something easier and cheaper.:xyxthumbs
 
Just ask/email them for a free sample. Sometimes the free samples are big enough to do a vehicle once. Plus if its only the "lip" of the wheel, then a free sample may be plenty.
 
I'm going to try Zoop Seal this winter too on my polished Halibrands. In the meantime, I found that polishing with any of the metal polish products (Wenol, Mother's, Meg's, etc), then putting a coat of Collinite Insulator will help greatly with dulling. Typically, Collinite lasts at least a month before I do the process all over again. I think the Insulator wax costs approx. $15. so it's not a budget buster.

Where can I find that? Can I get it locally?



What about a coat of car wax? Maybe a coat or two of NXT?

evo77: apply it, let it haze and buff off. You'll find that it is probably the slickest product you've ever used. I've used it on chrome, painted parts, aluminum, and it gives me the best results so far.

How does it withstand to wheel cleaners? I've always used Eagle One A to Z tire/wheel cleaner. If I use it to clean the wheels will it strip the Insulator wax right off?
 
evo77: I don't know how it will react with wheel cleaner. I just use Meg's car wash and that does not remove it.



I would imagine if Eagle has a harsh detergent, it might take off the Collinite product. I guess it would be something to try. Or, you might try e-mailing the manufacturer direct and ask them.
 
I like to use Adam's polishes aluminum polish on my wheels. The durability is decent, it's very easy to use, and the results are excellent. :cool:
 
I use Klasse AIO and SG on my polished wheels. Brake dust is mostly just hosed off but I have to use my soft wheel brush and the car wash soap to get off the rest. It remains clean and stands up to environmental attacks and wheels cleaners quite well.
 
I was alway under the impression you never wax aluminum wheels because it leaves a dull film. Great for paint but not aluminum. :nono
 
I recently put some NXT on my wheels and they seem to have gotten dirtier quicker with NXT than with nothing on them. I guess the NXT makes the brakedust and dirt stick to the wax? :(
 
I know that my local wheel shop sells an aluminum wax made by Busch or Eagle that helps keep a polished surface from tarnishing....works well.
 
i put two coats of synthetic on my wheels as a base (i use finish first on the wheels only) topped by a carnuba (p21s is my product of choice for this)...

i use a detailers spray in between detailings to wipe them off with.

i reapply the carnuba with each washing.

and the wheels always look new!

What wheels? And are they clear coated?



I'm referring to non-clear coated polished aluminum.
