How to properly apply rain-x

Well, I use rain-x, but have seen a change, and want to reapply it. I bought a new bottle ( apparently new formula ) in the shop yesterday and want to go at it tonight...



Car is washed and dry. Do I use for instance Jeffs Prime first to completely strip the previous stuff, and then apply as the bottle says?
 
for me, I just use some rubbing alcohol to clean the area and then do a pass with a glass cleaner (stoners invisible glass). Let it dry a bit and then apply the rain x. I do a second coat of rainx after a few minutes. Then buff off the excess.

i agree. i always do two applications before wiping with a "almost" damp towel.:bigups
 
i do mine before a wash ...clean the glass with your favorite glass cleaner, then apply the rain x with a small clean cloth or kitchen paper towel



wash the car as normal and dry the glass with a drying towel....streak free glass !!
 
I stopped using Rain-X when I started using Clearkote's Quikshine. Cleans the glass and makes the water bead up and roll off in the rain with one easy step. Lasts longer too.



I always had a hard time getting Rain-X to buff off streak free that I was frustrated using it. :nixweiss

I found the easiest way is to apply before my wash and don't remove. Wash as regular with my wash mitt and everything is fine. No streaks...

Do products like these really make a difference? The only time i would find it useful is when it's raining but my car came equipped with windshield wipers (yes i'm being a smartass). But does it make that much of a difference when it's really pouring or something?

I don't know what kind of car you drive

but I am sure it does not have wippers on all the glass!

but any sealant will work

Yep, definitely makes a difference. Especially when you're driving at a relatively high speed (>30 mph). The water beads up and immediately rolls off the windshield instead of forming "blobby" messes like unwaxed paint. It's also a safety thing because for example, if a truck goes by you on the highway splashes water all over your windshield, the water will clear off WAY faster with wax/sealant than without.



Also helps a lot for the side windows and rear windshield, areas without wipers. The water, again, doesn't just stick on the surface and distort the vision of the driver, but beads up and blows right off.
 
Used RainX for years. Loved it as a product but the durability was a problem. Recently went to Aquapel as I was told it lasts much longer. Very pricy product it better last longer for the price.

I drove home to Marlborough, MA from a weekend trip to Gettysburg, PA in heavy rain and only used the wipers once or twice due to Rain-X!
