How to prevent rock chips

IMO you are more likely to get rock chips if the road is not dry. I try to avoid the interstate during rain or inclement weather.

What I hate is getting rocks kicked up toward me from vehicles in neighboring lanes. But the worst situation I've had lately is when a semi changed into my lane just ahead of me, then a few seconds later, as I was slowly backing off, he swerved briefly several feet onto the shoulder and kicked up a bunch of salt and loose rocks. My front bumper was just painted a few months ago and I'd been trying to be careful with it until this jerk pulled his stunt. :wall

you should of pulled over n whipped his ***.:xyxthumbs

Anybody know the proper prep before installing the 3M clear film? Do you wax first? No wax?

From the person who installed mine (autobahn roadblock) told me that they will remove any wax or sealant prior to installing the 3M film, so that the wax won't build up underneath the film from the sun.

And if it's peels, or turns yellow I have warranty that states that they will replace it.

3M did the research for 10 years, and from reading I think it starts turning yellow after 7 years. Other than that.. it was a must get "option" when I bought my TL in Aug 05.

Money well spent... not getting rock chips on the hood and bumper.

Here is a pics of my hood with clear bra. You can hardly tell it's there. It covers the bottom 6 inches of my hood.

Another thing.. I just found out that you're supposed to wax or polish the film at least twice a month to prevent yellowing and prevent future stains from bugs. I've done just that.

Thanks.. I have a nasty scratch on the plastic peice of the hood. I was able to buff it off, but you can see it from an angle and the right light settings.

I'm going to most likely have it replaced and have them install a new peice which will cover my whole entire hood. There is lots of road construction, and I do a lot of highway driving. I feel confident driving, but still worried that rocks will scratch the bra. GRRRR!

u sound pretty anal about it , just like me. have u experienced any staining with water spots on the black trim? what have u used to fix it? i have a 06 tsx and you can really see the stains in the black trim which annoys the **** outa me.

What black trim? You have a clear bra that covers the trim?

And in another word, is this clear film protection is 'rock chip proof'? In this way you don't have to worry when you tailgate somebody too? lolz
