how to make my black truck BLACK

Well i just picked up a new truck. an 05 chevy colorado xtreme - BLACK. its a real clean lookin truck but its just not lookin as good as i'd like. when i first brought it home i washed it, clayed, polished with ssr1 on a white lc pad, then waxed with meg's nxt. well the polish did a nice job on the swirls and the nxt left a real nice slick feel to the paint but in the sun the truck doesn't look all to black, it actually has like a greyish type look.

any thoughts?

should i be using a carunba to really bring out the black, or a different type of polish??

i'm open to all suggestions, so please help me make my black truck BLACK!

Would you happen to have any pictures of the truck in the sun? It's hard to tell if it is maybe micromarring/haze or just the way the paint looks in the sun. BTW, where are you located? There may be an autopian near by willing to take a look at it if you don't have a camera.



Does the paint look defect free in the sunlight?
 
I have a black 2005 Mustang GT, and a few months ago I purchased a Zaino kit. I applied a coat of Z2 (clear coat polish). It looked great in the garage, and once I parked it outside to take a look, my paint looked exactly how you described (almost grayish). I was not a happy camper. I brought it back in the garage and applied a coat of Z5 polish (for swirl marks). After I buffed it off, I brought it back in the sun, and the paint was a nice deep black again.



I'm not saying the Zaino was the cure, but perhaps your faded color was due to the type of polish you were using. Just recently it happened to me again, but with Meguiars Show Car Glaze. But I experimented and put it on with the PC, and it caused bad micromarring. I followed it with Meguiars Swirl Remover and it was gone. Just a little info I thought might help you.
 
I would bet part of the problem is the paint. I have a 2003 Bonneville, and in direct sunlight the paint actually looks more like a dark brown. Some areas even look to have light paint coverage as well. Almost impossible to see though if not in good sunlight, though I can see one spot above the drivers door. This pick is of this area above the door.

I had a similar result when using NXT on my black Integra. A coat of #26 over the NXT definately made it a deep black again.
 
well i don't have any good pics of it looking like that (as i delete all bad pics of the truck haha) but if the sun comes out tomorrow i'll snap a few.



i know the paint isn't metallic, so maybe its just bad product choice? or possibly gm black just isn't as good as others??



i was however thinking of picking up some klasses AIO to re-polish and clean up the paint, hopefully clear it up a little, and then put something other than meg's nxt on top.
