How to clean residue and restore shine to wheels

Getting back into my detailing groove. Recently updated my rides, including a Tunrda Texas Edition. I didn`t notice it while buying it, but the wheels have this white residue on them. I can removed it with my nail, but a plastic bristle scrub brush won`t remove it. Not sure what it is. In addition, part of the wheels look to have flat black paint on them. Whats the best way to care for them/make them pop? TIA!

Scooter, have you given consideration to using a wheel cleaner? Are we seeing the start of clear coat failure?

yes, that is clear coat failure ... aftermarket wheels need to be taken care of with much more care than an OEM ... quality control is not even close ...

Ive used wheel cleaner. Not much help. I think the clear coat did fail. What best options do I have going forward? Will the wheels become corroded without the clear coat?

many wheel cleaners may be too strong for aftermarket wheels .. if you want to keep these, I`d have them stripped and then re-coated ... polishing will make them look a little better for a short time, but the clear coat has failed and it will not be getting better

I`d check with a local trusted body shop or powder coating place for that answer .. they would want to visually inspect the wheels before moving forward .. recoating is not that expensive

Scooter2525- The oe clear (almost always a powdercoat these days) appears to be failing. IMO the fix is to find a Wheel Refinishing place or buy some that`re already redone, hard to say which route will be cheaper as I`ve had it go both ways.

Yeah, I would definitely price out new wheels and see if you can find something acceptable, Scooter. Maybe even seek OEM take offs from another Toyota owner...

FWIW, the refinished wheels at WheelsTiresandmore.com that I got for my vehicles are *great*. I`d returned other refinished wheels in disgust and didn`t expect theirs to be any better, but !surprise! Free UPS shipping in the ContUs too.

(IF anybody orders from them and is *NOT* satisfied, I`d really like to know about it.)
