How to clean natural chamois?

Mine is dirty and smells something awful. Help!



Or should I just chuck it and get a "Big Blue" Towel...
 
I used to wash mine with a little soap and water. There used to be stuff like "chamois oil" that returned the suppleness of the chamois but I haven't seen it in awhile.



Besides, waffle weave microfiber towels are better in almost every respect. I cannot imagine a reason why I'd go back to a natural chamois. I don't even use my Absorber any more. Why bother? The waffle weave kills it.
 
I got rid of mine and went with the cwb and various waffle weave mf towels. They work better than either the real or synthetic chamois. The day of the chamois has gone the way of Brylcream, Wildroot creme oil and Vitalis! (good grief!......I have no idea where those analogies came from!)
 
I use the Chamois Cleaner from Griot's Garage ($7.95 for 16oz). It made my chamois softer than when it was new. Makes the leather soft and supple again. I haven't had much luck removing stains from the chamois though, but that shouldn't affect the performance.
 
Forgive me for asking, what's waffle-weave MF look like, and how does it differ from the MF that's sold in those large packages?
 
Chamois including the professional perforated are still very useful. When cleaning fabric car seats, spray the cleaner onto the seat and then wipe with the chamois.

I still use a chamois for drying as i'm not convinced of MF towels

Same with claybars. Old technology. Never had a need to use them. Tar-get,Sap Sucker and car chem S.A. acidet will do the job much quicker and easier than a clay bar.

Basically, it looks a lot like those kitchen dish cloths you see in stores everywhere - that is "waffle weave" style as opposed to "terry" style like your bath and face towels and all the other MFs we use.
 
Hoping I don't sound like a smart alek I'll say that a waffle weave towel is woven to look like a waffle. Honest. They are the best drying towels. The regular, more terry-like mf towels are great for windows wiping off wax and all the other stuff we use them for but for drying the ww (waffle weave) are just great. I love'm. I think the store here has a pkg of 6 small gray ones for a quite reasonable price. Maybe you could try them that way. I use the smaller ones for my wheels, for applying Spray & Wipe etc. Very handy to have around.



If you ever can talk yourself into buying one of the large blue ones you'll very soon wonder how you lived without it. I have them from 2 or 3 different sources and can't tell much difference.....but I'd trust Ranney at www.pakshak.com for sure. Tell him you post here.
 
Bretfraz, I reread the question and elbee asked what to clean his chamois with. I didn't see a price limit in the post. I Use the Griot's Chamois Cleaner and am very pleased with the product. Only a half an ounce per cleaning is needed which is about 50 cents. It works very well.

I'm glad you are amused.
