How safe are toothbrushes on wheels?

I'm detailing mom's car while she's on vacation as a late mother's day gift (couldn't find a time that she could sit still long enough to let me clean it while she was home).. The wheels look like the ones on the car here. Lots of little holes towards the outside of the rim.

My wheel brush is too big to get into the holes to do a decent job at cleaning.. I was wondering how safe one of those cheap power toothbrushes would be. I have an extra, old one (Oral-B, got a new one for free) that I don't use anymore and I think it'd be small enough to get in to the crevices to do the job. But I'd rather not scratch up the wheels.

Anyone tried this before? I see a few threads w/ people talking about using a toothbrush on wheels, but no mention of a powered toothbrush.

It should be ok, just make sure the bristles are fairly soft. Test it on an out of the way area first though. If you are still leery of using that, go to an autoparts store and try to find a small skinny brush that will work.
