hey everyone,

I'm new here. about three weeks ago i got my 2002 MR2 Spyder. I have washed it 2 times and waxed 2 times. I figure i will wash/wax againthis weekend. then i shoudl be good on the waxing for a few months. but i was thinking i woudl wash every weekend.

My question is how often shoudl i wash it? how often shoudl i wax? how often shoudl i use 303 protectant on the inside? on the top? what else shoudl i do that i am missing and how often?

i want to keep the car lookign nice all the time but i dont want to overdo it. any advie woudl be appreciated.

Hi Spyder,

Welcome to Autopia. This is definitely the right place to be if you're looking for info on car care.

I think you'll find most Autopians wash and wax their cars frequently but on no specific schedule. Basically, it's on an "as needed" or "as desired" basis. Many of us QD frequently (i.e daily) so a full wash isn't always a regular thing. Others of us love to polish and wax our vehicles so much that we do it because we love it instead of because the car needs it. The same routine goes for interiors. Some Autopians may have a schedule they use but most don't; we do it as we see fit, whatever that means. :)

If you're new to this level of detailing I highly recommend you purchase the Autopia Guide to Detailing. It's $20 and worth every penny as its full of great advice and product suggestions. You can use the guide as a foundation for your own detailing schedule.

Hope this helps. Welcome to the club.Click Here

BTWSome wash every week while others wash once a month....It all depends on how dirty etc etc.

A Quick Detail may prolong the time between washes.

As for applying interior protectants I think it is a personal thing and is up to you. I apply everytime I detail the interior which is about 2-3 times a month.

If you do not want to over do it I suggest researching polymer sealants for your paint like Blackfire, Klasse, or Zaino as these will last for many months.

BTW Welcome to the forum!!:wavey

Well this is what I would suggest if you want to detail your car often but not live every secondof your life detailing.

Wash once every week if you can, if not, make sure you wash it once every two weeks, use a 1 ounce to 5 gallons of water ratio if your car is not dirty. Car soap DOES strip yur wax and wax comes off very easily in the first place.

If you can, wax once every 3 weeks to a month. When you do wax, try to layer on 2 coats of a durable wax such as Blitz, it has a wonderful shine and a nice life span.

You can get away with using 303 once a month with great protection and good shine.

Clean your top once every two months (I heard once a month is too often) and protect your top with 303 Fabric Gaurd.

I hope this helped in one way or another.

I would highly recommend you look into a polymer sealent. Takes a little more time to apply to your car but your look at protection and a wax like shine for months ................. not weeks.
