How often do you change/rotate your wash media

Maybe I'm picky....or just rough on my wash media....but I've stuck with my SS mitts as my preferred wash media. I tend to use 2 for paint, and 1 for wheels. I generally get a years use out of them, before I relegate the paint to wheels and start a new cycle...

Just curious as in past threads, sheepskin topic related, I recall some mentioning having them for 6-9 years ......

yeah i just used a grout sponge for the first time today. the SS mitt i was using was starting to fall apart... cheap autozone crap lol.

i use an older SS mitt for the wheels, and its holding up way better than the one i was using for the paint, and i realize i like grout sponges much better. the sponge releases much more water and foam. and the dirt that gets picked up gets wrung out easily.

Really? I was under the impression that sponges would cause dirt and debris to get trapped into the sponge while cleaning thus allowing for more marring and scratches in the paint just from cleaning.

my lowes grout sponges (pro-line) are falling apart only after 3-4 uses. Can't deny that they do a good job with sudsing and washing but it's starting to looked a little beat up.

but on topic-I usually have my GS and MF mitt in the soap bucket and depending, sometimes I toss one in the rinse bucket and just grab the other one. I do wheels/tires first in a seperate bucket using my old terry covered sponges.

Wow. 3-4 uses? What are you doing with those sponges, scrubbing your undercarriage?

I'm still using the first grout sponge that I bought at Home Depot last year. It's been through a couple dozen washes and it looks like I just took it out of the package.

I'm testing my sheepskin mitts and BHBs every few months and I probably oughta do it more often (the last BHB that wore down marred the S8 before I caught it :o ).

I don't test my MF mitts as they still feel soft as new (OK, I should probably test 'em..) and I somehow don't see my sheepskins getting coarse/etc. either so I'm probably wasting my time testing those (they'll loose fibers and look "bare" and I'll replace them then anyhow). My sheepskins are, gee I dunno... at least four years old and they're still OK.

I've never had a sheepskin last me more than 3-4 months. Maybe I'm just too rough on them, but it seems they "shed" until all the strands fall out.
