I am going to work at the local Chevrolet dealership, CAdillac is too far.. Question is, how much should I ask for, in terms of work per hour? I have no real idea, I am excellent in doing cars, and also have been doing them for over 2 years, I told them I was experienced, and can do anything.

Thank you for your replies!

Happy 4th of July everyone!

More than likely, they are going to start you out at around minimum wage. Most detail shops pay like $6.50 an hour or something like that. The money in detailing is owning your own mobile business or shop business. Working for 'the man' in this industry will only give you experience that you can take to another shop. If you are working in a shop that caters to high end cars then you can get paid more than the industry standard but the detailers in those shops have several years experience working in different dealerships and private shops. Its a great place to start and will give you tons of valuable experience. If you can get the job then take it. Its a great opportunity.

I agree, expect to get a lowball offer. How are the working conditions? Is this done inside with A/C or will you buring in the heat? That would play a major factor for me. Ask yourself; What is the lowest amount I am willing to accept? If they go above that, then great. If not, tell them no thanks.

How old are you??

From someone who worked summer jobs at the local Chevy "Conditioning Shop" for two summers, I can tell you that being 16-17 at the time, I was paid 6.00 to start (because the way I got the job was by my car being so clean), then got bumped the next summer to 6.50.

Are they asking to see your car first to "demonstrate the quality of your workmanship"??? If so, make sure you do a complete detail on it just before you go, it helps if you have a clean car yourself when it comes time to discuss pay/etc. - gives you a little leeway.

When you get to the dealership, make a point to stop outside the office of the guy you are going to talk to, and use a cali. duster and QD on your car before you go in. (if possible, adjust your tie in the fender)....

basically just brown-nose your way into higher pay, in any way possible. These chevy dealership guys like that.

Oh, and one more thing: GOOD LUCK!! :wavey

Thanks guys, I pulled uo in the ETC, white idamond, navy blue top, freshly polished rims...you get the idea. Yeah we puled up into service, and the guy(s) like ran out, licking their chops together I am sure! I would sell the cars, but not old enogh to sell.

Thanks
