I have a repeated customer who wants me to do her horse trailer. I have no Idea what to charge her. She wants it polished and waxed, and probably all the metal polished too.
I was thinking around $250-$300 just for outside.
I don't think I am going to do the roof,

what would you charge for this job:

I'd be a bit closer to $500 for the outside only that's like washing and waxing a house....also the inside of those can be nasty...not a job for me

It all depends on how much your time is worth. It is white and likely not going to be especially tough to handle, it is just going to take a lot of time. Plus you will have to do it all out under the sun and that is always fun to do with white, so there should be 'discomfort' fees figured in. ;) Seriously though... It may be wrong, but I don't mind sweating over a Ferrari with lots of curves or going blind working on a white Porsche in the sun, but if you want me to bake my neck and burn out my eyes on a trailer like that, then you are going to have to pay me for the discomfort.

I agree here I am guessing that more along the lines of $400 plus. Do not sell yourself short, this is obviously wanted by her.

I'm right with everyone else. $400-500 for the outside. I hadto do my old bosses cattle trailer for free, since I worked for him, and he wanted the inside done. Well, it was covered in hay and cow crap. I was loving it.......:surrender

I would do it for about 375 Outsied, and that's not including the top, only because Have exprience and probably take me about 5 1/2 hours.

Where in TX are you? We are giving thought to moving to TX. Im sick of the north

Jeez, I guess My idea was to low,

I thought about $300. I dont think it would take much more than 4 or 5 hours to do that thing. I would use meguairs #66 polish so it woudl only take one pass around and you would be done.

I don't think that'll be to bad at all. It's all one big flat surface which wouldn't take much time, IMO. A one step product would be key for a job like this. #66, PwC (or even Nxt?) would do the trick on that. The one pain is going to be trying to climb a ladder to get the tops. A set of scaffolding or something along those lines would be very useful. Not sure on price, see how long it takes and go from there.

Anywhere from $15 - 18 per foot , that would include the roof . The job isn't that bad because everything is flat . Do like Budman suggested , run some type of scaffolding that helps you get the high areas without climbing up and down a ladder . Something simple like two gorilla platforms with a lenght of 2x12 between them would work . It will make the job go faster . One step it for sure. Good luck

I agree, but I'd say more like $25 per linear foot considering how that thing looks. :)

I will second the recomendations for some meguiars #66. Pull out the rotary and go to town. Once over and you'll be done.

OK, lets see, 30 ft. trailer x2=60. 8ft. across the front and back for 16 feet. 60+16=76x$25=$1900.00 . Yeah, sounds right to me! What do you think we should charge her for wheels and tires, $600.00?
Yeah, this is getting good. By the time you do the inside you can just take the trailer in trade for the "Detail":boot ..................Tom:)

No it's just overall lenght not every side combined.
30foot x $ price per foot = Cost

Some detailers charge different rates for boats when you get into the wider beam's but thats another story.

I agree with charge by the foot. Find out what your area charges for RVs. See if they have just a exterior price per foot. I know the area I"m in I could charge between $12 to $16 per foot. 30ft x $12 = $360. 30ft x $16 = $390. Do a one step and you should be able to clean about 4 to 5 feet per hour. That equals out to about $52 to $65 per hour. You would be spending at most about 7.5 hours on the trailer If you think that is worth your while then do it. If it's just the outside I'd would jump on it. People with horse trailers love to talk and they love to show up with there big trucks all shined and dressed up for the big shows. Go after the market anywhere you cna find it my friend, I would!!!

P.S. Remember that White AL. loves to oxidize. if it's bad you might have to go over some spots twice. Like the front that gets all the wind and bugs or the back with all the rain and road grime spraying up the back.

OK, I think I will charge her ~$400.

I got some stuff from Megs: Their #49 Marine Oxidation Remover and Premium Marine Wax
I think I will do #49 by rotary/(green edge pad) and top it off with premium marine wax.

Also if oxidation remover does not work can I use Megs "mirror glaze" line on gel coat?

Come on guys why charge by the foot?? You Can Not loose by charging by the hour.

Id say it would take about 6-7 hour with a dewalt to buff/polish/wax

my rates are 40.00 an hour retail and 30 wholesale..
