How much water do you use?

My/ourshop is in my mother in laws house with connected shop. Her water sewer trash bill for 3 months was over $300, WATER USAGE STATED 28,700 GALLONS. Single person, a couple dogs, and we might have washed 12 vehicles all together in that much time. City had been estimating usage for other a year cause the dogs (who are scared of men) were out in the yard. Just wondering how much water used to wash typical dirty vehicle would be? 100-200 gallons using just the hose, no power washer. I usually estimated 50-75 gallon do to the fact as floor drain is buried 55 gallon drum (french drain system), and figure we push out 20 gallon with sqeegie. Thanks RANDAL

I'm not sure how much water that I use, but from the sounds of it that's a lot of water for the house hold and just washing the cars you did....Did the bill spike on this last one? I ask that because I do cars mainly in the summer, along with water the garden and our family use....and we are not even close to that...could it be a leak has developed?
 
A single person will use on average 3000 gallons or less each month. Sounds like the city has been over guesstimating.... if you ask me:eek:. I would certainly ask for the last meter reading and get an accurate assessment of your actual usage.

Of course you may have a leak or a dripping faucett or a leaking valve on your toilet. Any of these could count up to the type of useage your are describing in no time at all. Do you water your lawn? When I water my lawn my water bill is 200.00 dollars or more a month.
 
cwcad is correct. When I lived alone, my water usage was 3-4k gallons bi-monthly. With someone else in the house it goes up to the 5-6k range.
 
ahh the only benefits of having a well...and the chlorine free taste.

Well I pay for the electricity for the pump, but thats it...
