I use only a few drops, but instead of the foam pads, I use the suede bonnets. They tend to spread better and more evenly than the foam. That said, when I used foam for waxes and so on, I would put about a nickel size or less on each pad, spread it a bit without the machine one and then turn it on and work into the paint.
The suede bonnets do work the product better with less absorbing and more working time...thus, less product.
Once the pads became more saturated, less product was applied. Remember, you should be cleaning the pads every few applications with a soft bristle brush.
