How much product do you use on a PC?

I'm new to using a PC ... practiced a little on a rental car before turning my efforts to my red Carrera 4. I'm comfortable with the PC now, but I'm not sure on a couple of points.

I will be using 3M SMR on my guards red Porsche, which has light scratches and swirl marks on it. I will Dawn wash and clay the car first.

1) How much product do I apply to the white CMA pad, and where do I apply it on the pad? A circle on the edge? A few drops?

2) Unfortunately, the rental was white, so it was difficult to tell what was really happening, but I applied the product quickly over the whole panel and then moved the buffer slowly in overlapping horizontal strokes. How will I know when it's completely buffed out? (I hope this is easy to see on red paint.) What is an appropriate speed to set the PC on?

3) After I have buffed with the PC, should I go over it again with one of the terry bonnets, or buff it by hand with a MF towel?

Thanks, all ...

When I did my car last week I started out with the bead around the edge technique only to find out that was way too much product. After that I put about a dime-quarter size drop in the middle of the pad for each section... that was probably still a little more than I needed but it got the job done.

Ofcourse that was my 1st time using the PC so somebody will probably show up and say they got 2-3 coats out of the same amount of smr that I used for 1 ;)

For the speed I started on 3 for the application then moved it up to 4 as I buffed it off. You'll be able to see it on red pretty good. Once you buff it off you then go back over it with a MF towel.

Nothing more than a quarter size in the middle of the pad!Its your chioce to go over it with whatever you want polishing pad towel or whatever you feel confortable with I go over my car with a clean MF towel and buff it out .there is no right way or wrong way it to each there own

I work in small sections, maybe 2’x2’. You can put a small bead on the outer ring of the pad or a nickel sized dab in the middle. Put the pad in contact with the area your are going to work with the motor off, work the product into the area then turn the PC on. With SMR I’d say run in at 4-5k. I haven't seen a set of bonnets that I’d trust yet so I recommend doing buff out with a quality cotton or MF towel.
