How much polish?

are you using a machine? i think a pea sized bead of product is too little for hand or machine. Maybe you are thinking a quarter?

I bought the OP line of polishes and I think someone mentioned to use pea size for their products.

I'm by no means experienced since I've polished with my PC twice now, but it seemed to work pretty well for me dropping 4-5 pea sized blobs on the peremiter of the pad for the Optimum products.

I usually use about 4-5 pea sized areas at 12/3/6/9 o'clock, and dead center, for a panel (Meaning front/rear quarter/door panel) I may add another drop or two for the hood or roof area.....

Check out the "Guide to Detailing"

It recommends that you apply the polish in a "ring" all around the pad about one inch from the edge. Or you can make an "X" on the pad. There are also pictures that show how much product to use.

I use about that much when I apply product. I find that putting little "pea" sized dabs on the pad results in me polishing only a "pea" sized area.

It really doesnt matter what "design" you use. The product will incorporate itself to about 95% of the pads surface area in a very short time. The first panel you polish will always require slightly more product until the pad is seasoned thoroughly. I do caution those newb's from oversaturating at the onset.

You'd think that a manufacturer would want to to use more than enough to keep you buying their product. I tend to use alot of product when polishing with either a rotary or a PC and I just make sure to spur/clean my pad so it doesn't get caked up and turn dusty. You want to make sure to have what ever pad you use completely lubricated with product to eliminate dry pad bufing. A good detail spray usually helps out in conjunction with the product to lubricate the pad.

Depends on the vehicle, but say a chevy silverado, I use 4 dime size dobs for the hood, 2 on the roof, 1 on the door (1 one each door if it's got 4) 3 on the box 2 smaller ones on the tailgate..

For a midsize car, 2 on the hood, 4 on the roof, 2 on the trunk, 1 on each qp and 1 on each door.

Since I've switched from PC to rotary, I find I use way less polish...maybe because I'm finally gettin good at it at after about 100 cars :|
