How much IP to use with rotary?

I tried my new makita for the first time this past weekend and had a really hard time accomplishing corrections.

Though by the end of the day things were going a lot smoother as I got better at spreading it, I still did not have near the play time I thought I should.

I was using a thin 6 inch line of product to cover an area of about 2x2. An amount I thought was appropriate. Then I came across this video:

Scott McLain from Lake Country Mfg detailing a Pontiac Solstice at SEMA by properautoguy -- Revver Online Video Sharing Network

I suspect some of my difficulty could have come from using way too little product as by comparison I used about 1/4 of what he did.

:nixweiss

I should also say I was using 6inch foam pads LC and Megs

Wow! He throws that pad around, and after he dumps the IP onto the paint, he is pushing the pad down way too hard, he's really forcing that machine...

I'll bet he's really stubborn, if anybody was to tell him, he looks like the kinda guy to go dark red in the face and scream/spit at you. Just my impression, ha.:grinno:

Reminded me of that guy from GB who described peopel dumping polish on bonnets as making a fart sound. He was quite scary also, considering his technique...

This guy puts on so much polish he's got to spray a "pad lubricant" to loosen it up.

At the end of the video it also says there is nothing to remove blemishes from clear bras...

I am not in the league that many of you are in, but I use my Flex in a far more deliberate way. I also parse my product out in a more conservative fashion. I am interested in seeing how my fellow forum mates respond to the video.

Lake country are experts of pads but certainly not polishing using a rotary, that technique is awful

A 6 inch line of menzerna is too much, even at the beginning

four pea sized drops is enough at the start, then go to two to three from then on

I can work that much SIP on a whole front guard and for up to four minutes (I love to burnish at every speed setting from 600 to 1000 with my makita.
