How much for big truck?

What would you guys charge? 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500. Crew cab (4 doors), long bed. Full detail. No engine bay. It's a clean truck. Has some minor swirls already. It is red and black. Sharp truck. Told him I do the works not just vacuum interior but dress it and glass and everything. Wash, wax, interior, no polishing or anything. I quoted him a price and he told me what other guys were doing it for and I don't see how. I am gonna call tomorrow and see if the shop quotes me what he said they do it for.

I want to see what you guys would charge. Thx. Mike.
 
I plan on using Pinnacle Souvern also. I told him I would be using a high end wax also. Looking forward to seeing what you guys would charge.
 
make sure to not under-cut yourself. sure, he can go to another shop buy they're probably hacks and sometimes you get what you pay for...
 
I try and give an estimate that makes me about 25 bucks per hour, which is pretty cheap. I never charge more than the price given in an estimate even if it takes me much longer to get the job done. Just take a SWAG at how many hours the job will take, multiply it by your hourly rate, and give him the price.
 
I am in southeastern ohio where the economy isn't that great. I have my own shop but I do cars and such on the side. I am pretty decent w/ a PC and need more practice, but own a Makita buffer. I am happy with $15 per hour really. It would be me and my dad doing the job. I quoted him $160 and he pretty much said it was too much. Told me other place did it for $125.
 
Wow, your price seems very generous. Surprised he didn't jump at it. Well, he'll probably get a 125 dollar job at the other place, if you know what I mean.
 
Yeah when I talk to him again. He owns place next to my shop. I am going to tell him by the way whoever is washing your truck is probably the one putting those swirls in your $50,000 truck.
 
I absolutely hate people like this. People who tell me that the other guy charges $_____ for this service, I usually tell them to go to the other hacker and call me when you can afford me. Just set a price that your comfortable with and go with that, but don't let him set your price and never under-cut your service, then he'll be expecting that from now on.
 
If I could get the job I would tape off a section and put the halo's on it and let him see a before and after. Not major swirls but enough to be seen in sunlight. He would probably want the whole truck polished. Then he would really love my price when I told him about $300 lol. There loaded too and that's the thing that kills me lol.

Exactly. Too bad he won't pry open his wallet far enough to really see what his truck could look like.

And they have tons of rich friends w/ nice trucks and such. So if they would just sit back gimme some dough and let me do it they would probably be very happy w/ the finished product. What would you charge?
 
That vehicle is a lot of work and IMO your price was not high at all. A vehicle like that has a lot of real estate to cover, is quite tall so you'll need a platform or ladders which also slows you down and wears you out.



FWIW, it takes me about 8 hours for a full detail on a big long bed crew cab and that's busting my butt at that pace.

Great point. Even if you do it to get him as a customer, and you get referrals then THEY will expect the same low price, even if the car is in worse shape.



A 1-step for a HUGE black truck, will be explained(along with all the other processes) that the light swirls will be removed and not come back as long as good washing technique is used. $350-370 starting or neighborhood for all that black paint. Don't undersell your work.
 
LISTEN TO THIS: I called a local detail shop today. They quoted me a price of $90. Do you believe that? I knew they sucked when they said they dressed the inside with ArmorAll. I need to get a business liscense and open up my shop and get some word of mouth going. I can get pretty good results with a PC and I own a Makita rotary but I need more practice with it. I have some good products for the Makita (Hi Temp products I believe it is). Menzerna, Sonus. I try to use nothing but the best. Hard to get people in this area off the money though. But I think if I could get a couple before and afters done w/ a 2 step or something people would see there is more to detailing than the local wash/wax and Armorall. Had to rant sorry.
 
Detail shops are all about getting it done and getting the money. Youre in it to do a good job and make the customer happy but the majority of the time a customer is happy with crap for a detail. Most do not know what a good detail is all about. Throw some shiny stuff on the tires and dash and they will be happy, which is exactly what those so called 'detail' shops will do.
