How Much Dawn Per Gallon?

Patrick from Excel has me all set up so now I'm ready to do a full routine on a new car. Here's my noob guess at a routine:

* Dawn or NXT wash
* Clay bar
* Dawn or NXT wash
* 4* SMR if needed
* AIO
* 4* UPP x2
* 4* UGE

But I have a few questions!

1.) Any advice for a new white car? Is this rountine ok?
2.) Should I wash with Dawn or NXT?
3.) If I do the Dawn wash, how much dawn per gallon?

1.) Sounds OK to me, but I wouldn't use the Dawn.
2.) Use the NXT.
3.) See above.:)

Use the AIO according to the instructions. Apply it with a damp applicator, whether it be by hand or PC. Do a section at a time, remove the AIO right after it is applied, then move on to the next section.

The UPP can be applied right away after using the AIO. Follow the instructions. Dry applicator, apply very thin, let dry 15 to 30 minutes. (I wait 30)

You should wait 24 hours before applying the second coat of UPP.

If it were me, I would also wait 24 hours before using the UGE. That will give the UPP plenty of time to cure, or whatever it does. Actually, I probably wouldn't use the UGE until the looks of the car appeared to need it. Dust, bugs, water spots, etc.

You are going to love that combination.:)

Dishwashing liquids (Dawn) where formulated for a completely different type of soil that that found on vehicles. A one time use probably won’t do much damage, but you’re better off using a lesser than usual dilution rate car wash concentrate solution.

If you want clean but not suffer the Dawn consequences, go with Four Star Car Wash Concentrate.......

Sounds like maybe NXT is the way to go then. I wondered is Dawn was often used because it stripped old wax and grease whereas car wash was meant to protect them.

I don't have the 4* wash yet, only NXT, but it'll be part of my next order :phone:

The AIO or any of several cleaner/polishes will pretty much take care of the old wax and grease. IMO, there is no reason to ever need a Dawn wash. Lots of people won't agree with that, though.

If you want to try the 4 Star wash, then by all means, do so, but you do have a very good shampoo in the NXT.
You should have all the products you will need to do a great job on your car.:)

Charles - thanks for your input. As a noob it helps with the confidence before I go dig in with stuff I've never used before, especially the PC.

Having taken a look at the car, I think I'll skip the SMR. THere is some light spider webbing, but I don't want to take on too much and the effort today is just to get some protection on for the winter salt - it's unusually warm here in the midwest!

I'm going in ...

Probably the hardest fought argument is to use Dawn or not (steaming from one product line's recommendation to use it before applying to remove any wax, oil and grease from the car's surface). But....I take the word of the manufacturer (of Dawn)..

Ok to wash car?

Question
Can I wash my car with dishwashing detergent?

Answer
Your car surface and the dirt that gets on it are a lot different from the food soils and dishes that dishwashing liquids clean effectively. We don't recommend them for cleaning your car.

That is a VERY easy question to answer.

NONE

You should not wash your car with Dawn. Not if you like your car that is.

I am a newbie to this forum and am wondering what all these abbreviations mean. Am looking into investing in good quality detailing supplies but cant make out any of these abbreviations. Is there a place on this forum that describes these? If not can someone please let me know what they are?

My only other question is do you all use a clay bar with the lube it comes with or just with clean soapy water....

Thanks in advance.....
