I was going to buy a Porter Cable orbital polisher the other night and i decided to hold off till i read some more on this board. How many people out there use a machine and how many do it by hand ? I've always heard and saw great things a buffer can do to bring back a shine or get rid of swirl marks that doing by hand just can't do.

i use the PC 7424 for polishing and hand apply sealants/waxes. i would reccomend getting the pc, it is *almost* fool proof for novice users.

I use the pc if I am doing just a wash and wax....If I do a polish and wax then I polish with a high speed and wax by hand

By Hand gets you results, just as you keep working the product back and forth (Poorboy's products)

A PC will truly work the products finer and more. Just think of the action of the machine as it random orbits so many times compared to your hand.

I have decided to not get a PC yet, but just keep using the products that i have by using hand. Also I've heard for sealants / waxes doing by hand is preferred.

Depends on what you want and what your going to do for your detail setup.

hehe. zymol did the spring weather get to you that fast? :lmfao

we should meet up, groebuck is around with his PC. I will the only non machine user. :hippi

I have used a rotary for years and always applied sealants and wax by hand. I bought a PC about 5 months ago and don't know how I got along without it.
I now alternate when doing a detail between the rotary and PC ...
Example ... DCAP with a rotary ... #82 SFP with PC ... #3 with Rotary ... UPP by hand or PC.
Great results and absolutely zero swirls or buffer holograms.
Also Meguiars NXT works so much better when applied with a PC and a finish pad.
The PC is a great addition to the detailer's toolbelt

LOL yeah - i have spent so much on stuff this winter!! O well, I still want to spend more. I just need to get my car fixed first!! Unfortunately, I doubt my new PC will fix the $1600 in damage! Yeah all of us people on here from NC should meet up sometime - that would be awesome!

I use the Cyclo Polisher and really love it. I will be getting a rotary within the next month - but I'm still researching the Milwaukee, Dewalt or Makita. :google

I have a Milwaukee and love it ... it is not mentioned much on the forums.
It is on the heavy side but the speed control dial can be adjusted with your thumb without even looking at it. Great machine!!!

I have a PC and a Makita rotary. I use the PC frequently and the Makita rotary very seldom. I wonder how I existed without the PC and would never go back to doing everything by hand. The cheap ro's aren't worth bothering with. They can't do the job.

I use a Black and Decker rotary/high speed it's the Dewalt with a different name, same thumb dial as the Makita. Also use a Polishmaster orbital buffer, it's not a PC and is used on cars in fair condition that claying makes great... Going to get a PC soon due to everyones enthusiasm here... Whats the comparison from a PC to a rotary? Simmaller, Same, No comparrison?

I just got mine and used it over the weekend. What a time saver and I found that I went through less product too vs. by hand.

If you've got the funds don't mess around get a PC. Porter Cable 7424. Oh and you can search the web if you'd like for the best price like I did, but for the couple extra bucks either way I choose PremiumAutoCar.com. They help sponsor this site and offer a 10% discount for DC members also you can save the postage this month (March) for all orders over $100 which should not be a problem since you will also want some EDGE pads to go along with the PC.
