How many pads do you guys use per vechile? obviously it depends on the size of the car

but how many would you say on average?

If the paint is in good shape with little oxidation, I usually use about 4-5 pads (2-3 for compounding, 2 for finish polish).

But on a large SUV, truck or heavily oxidized vehicle, I've used as many as 10 pads! But you don't really have a choice... if the pad is caked with crud..... CHANGE IT!

(I don't like working on those!):scared:

On some vehicles I use about 6-8 pads and for those ones that need a true correction then it could be around 14 pads.

Great Question Nick,

On my Silverado, when i jeweled the paint, it took 6 pads.

On my brothers M3 when i compounded and jeweled it took close to 9.

I have one of those pad2000 washers i use to clean the pads after every panel, and then use an MT bucket and a Rotary to spin dry the pad.
Then let the pad air dry.

I usually use 1 pad per step. So I'll use a PFW pad with M105 or M95 to go around the car, then a M8006 pad with M80, and for a 3rd step something like 106ff on white or FPII on black, depending on hardness of paint.

I do clean the pads after every section I polish using a spur and a plastic brush. Obviously when working on single stage paints pads tend to get more paint built up and I'll use 2-3 per step.
