How many of you guys have insurance?

A good policy that covers you well will range between $280 up to $380.00 a month.

We are covered for the cars in our care, while we drive them and also for hospital. We also have coverage for fire, loss of tools and get paid a certain amount if unable to work.

It costs more but worth it.

I have RLI, and pay MUCH less than the larger insurance companies. It covers my home shop, or me working anywhere (other shops, homes), driving the vehicle, my tools from theft, etc. Check them out. If you want a contact there, PM me for more info ;)

Insurance was the first thing I took care of before I even started to think about detailing for money, not having it is a huge risk in this sue happy country. It only costs me $100 per month and gives me piece of mind.

Wow, I must be getting either not enough coverage or it's just that cheap in my area. My whole yearly coverage is like $380 or so.

;) 2000th post!!!

I can't believe that people actually have to ask these kinds of questions. Insurance is 100% necessary regardless of whether you are fixed location or mobile. Any savvy operator will make this a part of their advertising that they are 100% insured and can prove it with a current and valid insurance certificate. If you are setting foot on a customer's property you need to have insurance as if you damage ANYTHING or god forbid someone gets injured by slipping in water, tripping on your cords or whatever.....you are legally liable. Same with driving a customer's vehicle - you are NOT covered by that customer's insurance. I met a guy at the world car care expo that found out the hard way and was in an accident that was deemed to be his fault. The customer's insurance company paid for their car to be fixed and were sued by the other driver and then turned around and sued the detailer to recover the loss. He was preparing to lose his house over that. Any professional running a legitimate business has insurance coverage.

My biggest reason for having insurance is the liability. Say you are out on a mobil job, in the clients garage. Even though you have explained to the client that no children are to enter the garage, one runs out and trips over an extension cord...breaking an arm or worst....Are you covered or its possbile that the client will own a part of your earnings for the rest of your working life?

Other reason for having insurance is so that I can pickup/dropoff clients cars.
