how many layers will dawn remove

mrecktid...................................... can you explain to me the comment that a simple dash wash won't do much except remove all of your paint I really don't understand

I think the comment about remving the paint was sarcasm althought I am not sure of the point ( at least I hoep it was suppsoed to be funny)

In same ways i get paid to wash with Dawn. My main business is used car reconditioning. Most of our late model vehicles get a Dawn wash so i can see what others are trying to hide. We often buy from other dealers or dealer auctions and most have being waxed or sealed ( most poorly=spatter, crevice residue etc.)

I will say that the Dawn wash usually removes 50% to 60%. Of course this depends on the product that they used. In most cases the paint still has some beading after the wash and still feels smooth. Now when i have to put our dealer sticker on the back i use a mild solvent and then a glass cleaner to clean before the sticker is put on. This is really where you can see the difference from clean paint to the waxed paint. Looks and feels different.

Now fast forward a couple of weeks and if i have to wash that vehicle again (not Dawn) it will show very little in the way of protection.

I guess my take is that Dawn will remove most wax and less of a polymer. If the wax is fresh i don't think it would take off more than 60%. Of couse it also depends on how strong you mix your Dawn.
