How many dings you have?

too many to count :( - most of them were there before I bought the car and can't just be removed by PDR because of the type of dings they are.

He he I'm another "parking lot hiker" here too. (I've also become an extremely fast shopper) It's such a habit for me to park far away I even did it with a rental car. My take is if you park so away and someone damages your car, they actually took time out of their life to intentionally do so; nothing you can do about those low lives :angry :( Any way, by and large, park far away and you'll be ok :up

Today my fiancee decided she wanted to run some errands, and the parking lots were INSANE. I wound up circling while she was in a store at one, and we parked literally across the street at the other...

She urged me to park across the street as opposed to risking someone dinging the car though, she's a keeper :D

On my Jetta, only one...from a stone (which also chipped the paint). I have 2 other chips that fortunately did not leave any dings.

My wifes Honda Pilot has one on the right door, one on the edge of the tailgate (from a forklift - sounds worse than it is), and one scratch on the tailgate.

I've had mine 3 years and her just under 1 year. To give her credit though, she's a freight forwarder out of Miami and doesn't have much choice in parking locations. For me, I'll hoof it, depending on the location.

They will persue your doors at all costs. I parked in this spot at my friends complex during a road trip and this guy (SEL) helped himself to the biggest spot in the lot. I got a ticket for parking on the curb(it is sorta red). You'd think he'd get one for two spots??

I HATE that. Situations like that are where the 16 year old Honda shines. Pull as close as possible to their driver's door with my passenger door and take down their license number (in case they attempt to impart revenge, white-trash style).

Amazingly, not once have I gotten the bash treatment -or- a nasty note. Go figure. Just doing my part to forcibly spread parking tutelage wherever I go.

I only have had my current truck 2 months but no dings.... My previous truck did not have a single door ding after 3 1/2 years not a single one I was VERY happy with that!

At work its nice since parking is nearly private and everyone that is allowed to park there is very picky about their vehicles so I am safe there but... Yes I take long walks in nearly every parking lot or park next a curb or between two new or very clean vehicles. I might circle the parking lot two or three time to find a good spot to park, passing several open spots that do not pass my inspection. Drives anyone nuts who rides with me but it pays off in the end.

HAH! I think my 2002 Passat will win. I'll go outside tomorrow morning and count all the dings and scratches. It's all a mess, while my prestine minivan is comfortably sitting in the garage...

LOL my gf and I constantly park far away and we've parked in other parking lots many times! We've also done the circling thing and we both tend to shop very quickly. :D

The damages to my 2002 Passat GLS with 27,000 miles as of 2/8/04:

2 dents, 2 keymarks under three inches, 6 keymarks over three inches, four over 6 inches, and one over 1 foot. About all of them went down to the metal, and this excludes the front and rear bumpers, which have their own share of bruises, lumps, and scratches.

Here's an old pic:

Don't forget the curbed wheelcovers!

As seen on TV "DENT MAGIC" will save you thousands of dollars!

1 hot glue gun

2 suction cups

1 corkscrew thingy

= all dents gone!

If you are asking yourself that question..... No I never bought or used it, lol .

Has anyone used it here?

Funny you mentioned this as I was just scrolling to the end of this thread to ask that question about experience with one.

My daughter just bought the Dent King kit for $20 and I tried it out last week. It actually works and it's pretty simple to use. I did about 4 dings. Only problem I found so far it tends to pull the ding out too far and now you have a bump. They give you a plastic tool that looks like a large candle that you are suposed to use to push the bump to level. I was worried that too much tapping down might cause the paint to crack as I was tapping the candle with a hammer. This is the part I was wondering, if anyone has experience in the final result?

Kit comes supplies for prob 15-20 dents. not bad for $20. One other pieve I have with it also so far is that the reflections off the dent are not the same as before the ding. Maybe with practice I can get that right with the tamp down tool but it was to hot that day. Works best on a cool finish. Of course it works best with smooth type dings (no creases) and if it's a big one you can pop it 10 times around in a circle, like a clock face for ten pulls to get a biggy out. Something like a softball size dent.

But like anything else it takes time for each dent. Only 5 min for glue to dry before you pop it, but takes time to clean the popping pad of residual glue before your next pop.

But all in all it really does work. Several of the dings I did came out nearly perfect with one pop and no tamping down from over popping.

Actually, I'm still in awe that this is quite the amazing invention in that someone created this "adhesive formula" it's a glue stick in the glue gun (they give you 5 or 6 and the gun), that holds this pad onto the dent just long enough to pop out a ding while you are screwing down this collar and it releases from the paint with a pop without any damage to it.

AMAZING

I have no dings on my Z71, however on the wife's bonneville we have 2. I always park far away, but have you noticed that even when you park miles away there's always some person who thinks they're cute and park right next to you?

Just wondering, what car did you use it on? I have a thin metaled Honda with several dents now... and I wonder if some DIY kit will make a difference. For $20, maybe it's worth a try.
