hi there i have always wondered how many times can you 1 or 2 step correction a car before you go threw the clearcoat. Is it a lot or only a few times just kind of curious, sorry for the stupid question just a noob.

Every car is obviously different, but a 1 or 2 step polish (depending on the products/methods used) should be able to be performed several dozen times w/o any problems. The key is to concentrate on washing techniques so nothing more than a final polsih is ever needed.

As Dave said, focus on washing AND drying technique and you will minimize swirls and micromarring. That said though, it's impossible to wash something for, say, 1-2yrs and not have anything on the paint, but good products+technique will mean it will just be the odd marr here and there, and not the entire car that looks like somebody took a wire wheel to it.

How much polishing/compounding you can get out of it will vary from car to car, as well as product, machine, technique, and pads (e.g., I'd wager you can get dozens out of a no-pressure white+106 approach, but you ain't getting anywhere near that if you use an all-out pressure PFW+power gloss approach). My test mule - black 03 g35 - has been compounded&polished about 8-10times in the last 3yrs (harshest though has only been 3401+orange+SIP) and it's still going fine. When I strike through it's getting sold, but if you only do it once a year there's 10 right there and no strike through.
