How many coats of KSG is too much?

I posted some pics of my 05' Crossfire Limited (Aero Blue metallic) over in one of my other car forums that I've been a part of for well over 5 years now and wanted to run this question by you other gurus. I've added FIVE coats of KSG to my car in the past 3 weeks and I first used the AIO, but just to see how it was as my cars finish was already great seeing that I'd added 20 applications before that (2 clay barrings mixed in there as well) My car IS NOT driven in the winter, I have a beater for that, so heres my question(s)

1. after the second coat of KSG, can it look any better by applying more?

2. once I "top" it with caranuba (Pinnacle 'signature series" is on the way) are additional layers on top of that with more caranuba or KSG a waste?

I know this may sound excessive and it probably is to most people out there, but we're not normal, are we?! LOL! I must say this, the application of AIO and SG have really brought out my cars best. I'm not kidding you when I say this either, it looks like its got some mega-buck paint job on it now! All I can say is thank you Klasse! :bigups

1. 2 coats to provide complete coverage is the best way to go, IMO. I haven't really noticed much improvement with several layers vs a couple. With carnaubas, I think the difference is more noticable because carnauba isn't as clear as a sealant so the added layers tend to slightly distort the surface giving visual depth.

Nothing wrong with putting on as many layers as you want though and maybe your eyes see something mine don't. :)

2. Same thing. 2 coats to ensure even coverage is what I would so. However, I wouldn't discourage you from experimenting. The key is to find out what looks best to you.

Just to add..........Due to bonding issues, Once you apply a carnauba over the KSG, you won't be able to apply more KSG unless you remove the carnauba. I once applied 6 layers of KSG ( after an initial layer of AIO ) to my ( then) Dark Emerald Pearl Accord & it looked teriffic. I then applied 2 coats of Souveran & just stood back and drooled!

I see a subtle improvement in looks with about the fourth coat but who knows if I'm just seeing what I want to see :nixweiss It does look different to me with many layers as opposed to just one though. As long as you're applying the SG to a clean surface (I clay gently, usually with the green Sonus clay) I wouldn't worry about having too many layers. I'd expect that the AIO stripped off some/most of the previously applied SG anyhow.

I quit topping my SG as I like being able to add more. But then I only use it on the minivan these days.

Do you think claying removes some KSG?

Depends on how you clay. If you clay *very* gently with something mild like the green Sonus clay, it won't remove an appreciable amount of SG. But if you use a "regular" detailing clay, and/or do it more aggressively, then yeah, it'll take some off. How much depends on how harsh the clay is and how hard you press. But unless you're claying *too* aggressively it shouldn't be a really big deal.

When I was using the Sonus gray clay to spot clay the MPV at every wash during my SGx6 durability test, the areas that I'd clayed repeatedly *did* stop beading/start to sheet before the areas I hadn't clayed. But it took a *lot* of spot claying for this to happen and the areas in question still had SG on them (you could still easily feel it on the paint).

Sal Zaino supposedly said that claying removes "half a layer" of Zaino. You could probably say about the same for SG when using regular detailing clays and claying the way most people probably do. So use milder clay and don't press hard ;)

Thanks for all of the input guys, its much appreciated! I just wanted to let you know that I do wait atleast a day before doing this, so I'm following that part of the directions as well. Someone mentioned about "seeing what you wanna see" and some could say theres some truth to that, but in my cars case I don't believe so. I've been detailing cars long enough, especially my own rides, to REALLY notice a difference and with each additonal coat it looks wetter, deeper and more clear and they (Klasse) have a customer for life! :grinno:

I've applied more than 3 layers of KSG to three different cars. I didn't notice any improvement with the 4th layer on any of the three cars. The difference between layer 2 and 3 was quite noticeable though, on all three cars. I'd like to try piling on a dozen layers spaced 48 hours apart; but I don't have a garage queen for a test subject.

Mikeman out.

Somewhere around 2-4 I don't notice any further improvement with additional coats. Theoretically you could apply enough to affect light transmission, but I've never seen it.

Surprisingly, additional coats don't help the lifespan of the product much, if at all. Did some crude testing of this once.
