DETAILKING,

Could you please enlightening me as to how you can get 2 coats of wax out of one ounce? I think that I must apply my wax on too thick then, cuz I'm constantly hitting the bottle for more.

How do you do it? Do you measure it out and go from there?

What's the trick?:nixweiss

I go through wax like it's cool. My applicator gets pretty full of wax.

(Maybe I'm just a wax junkie.):D

I have never done six coats in one day. My answer is derived from calculating amount used for ~2 coats (I mix 7cc ( 0.25oz) of Z2/5 with 2 drops of ZFX). Remember I have a convertible. :D

Yaz,

I am serious :). I use a cotton applicator and slightly moisten with Z6( some use water). I always treat the paint surface with a coat of Z6 prior to polishing. I never use more than a 3/8" circle of polish per panel except for the hood and trunk (Z28 convertible has a trunk) where I use a 3/8" circle per half surface. I never apply to a hot surface either or in direct sunlight. I normally apply in the garage. Some use a foam applicator, which I have in the past, and get even better results in terms of # of coats per oz.

I also get 2 coats.. wish i could get more.. but, having used Klasse SG, i learned the hard way to apply thin.. and i mean VERY thin.. i use all tricks to see if i applied it evenly, and thin enough, and if i corvered every area. I have a pathfinder which is pretty big, so i think 2 coats is alot.

1 ounce Z2/Z5 and 4 drops ZFX

I did it with Klasse too, the first time I detailed a car! I got at least 5 coats per ounce the first time I waxed a car! I think you just have to have the right mindset -- you don't have to see the wax to know it is there!

Go by feel . . . I only put one thin 2" or so line of product on the pad and use that for an entire panel-2 panels. I'm not worried about going too thin because I always go by feel to make sure I covered all areas and I know the layer that bonds to your paint is often hundreds of times thicker than the one that you put on.

If you can easily see a layer of the stuff on the paint from all angles, IMO you are using more than necessary. Is this bad? No. Wasteful? Yes.

Different strokes for different folks! :-d

6 COATS here. Nowadays, if I use ZFX I always mix a little LESS than 1/2 oz and I get 3 coats and still have a little leftover, so I guess I can do more than 6 coats out of 1 FULL oz.

When I first started using Z, I was getting 3 coats out of 1OZ ( Click to see my very FIRST Autopia Post about this .) Then 2 coats out of 1/2oz. Then 3 coats out of < 1/2oz. I guess the more you play with it, the thinner you go.

This is the reason why I try not to use ZFX if I only intend to do 1 coat. I really don't know how to calculate exactly how many oz of Z and how many drops of ZFX to mix for just 1 coat... Always end up wasting and throwing the the unused portion away.

I really wouldn't worry too much if you are not getting as many coats out of an ounce. Once I described to Sal how I apply Z and how less and thin I was doing, and he told me I could apply a little more if I want.

I started with 2 coats out of an Oz ,

second application : 3coats

last time I got 2 coats of Z2 out of 1/2 Oz.

Yep , practice...
