I hope to retire in five years, Im thinking of doing some detailing part time. How many of you guys do this on a part time bases, how does it work out. I will need to rent a garage or have one built to work on the cars. The products I use now on my own cars are, Klasse, S-100, UP.

I do this full time during the summer and part time the rest of the year (or, as in the case of this past winter, closed for part of the year as well). It works out for me because I'm a college student and don't have the financial obligations some people do (other than part of my tuition) and because I have insanely low overhead now. If you're going to be doing it part time, just make sure you know what you are doing so you can charge enough to make it worth your while, and enough to cover your overhead.

I am detailing part-time in addition to my full time job. I plan on detailing full-time as soon as I get enough business to support my family and I. Hopefully that will be sooner than later. My dad is nice enough to let me work out of his garage, since my condo does not have one. I will go to a customer's residence if they really prefer, and if they have water and electric.

I'm detailing part-time while going to grad school. I do most of my work at home or at a friend's shop. It works out pretty well for me.

I do it part-time as a college student. It works out great for me, since I live in Maine during the summer and go to school in Florida. It's quite possible to net 7-800 in a week working part time, you just have to hustle a bit for it.

Well, I do detail only in the weekend, so it's a part time for me. During weeday I work as network admin in nyc.

Same here!

I work full time during the summer in the Texas heat. Part time the rest of the year. It's great to work around your schedule.

I'm a temp all year 'round except in the winter when I'm AWOL. Well....I sorta gave it up after getting this full time internship, so I might have to retire.

I detail part time as I have a full time job. I usually work 4 days on then 4 off so for my detailing hobby it's great :bigups .

I have always wanted to do this full time and have high goals set. The plan has been set for 15 years and modified a bit throughout that time. Things always came up that stopped me from doing it though, marrage, kids, divorce etc etc etc. Now I am divorced, owe nothing but what my son needs and now its either sink or swim. I had been laid off in the spring and decided to go for it. It has worked wonders for me and it looks like my goals may realisticly be met faster than I thought.

Part time here in addition to my full time job. Started detailing in college because it was a passion and good money for a part time gig...turns out the money is soo good that I still do it part time and consider it my play money. I work a full time job as a software developer and would have to nearly break my back to make the same money detailing...BUT I'll never give it up as a part time deal as long as I've got the motivation to do it.

For me, it's a "paying hobby" and one of my ventures.

My full time job is a firefighter/EMT for the City of Marlborough, Massachusetts (Captain on an Engine company). I also work part time at the Massachusetts Fire Academy and do freelance writing and reporting for two local newspapers.

The money I earn detailing goes towards vacations and my new passion.. learning to fly!
