How long you use the same pad ?

How long do you use the same polishing pad on the rotary ?

Mark the back of the pad with a black sharpie marker each time you use the pad. I have read something like 10 usages, but that may be too much if the cars are in bad shape. I also think it depends on how you clean the pads.
