I've done 3 cars already with a Mother's Claybar System and for some reason it looks like I could do 3 more. I just keep on folding it over and it keeps on working!
How do you know when it's time to throw the clay bar away? Is there a visual indication that there are too many contaminants on it? Or is the sign something where the bar doesn't perform as well.
I have a mother's clay bar that I cut into 3 pieces. Clayed my car once, and I've already put it to use on my windows. Is that too soon? :nixweiss
You wil need a new clay bar when stretching and folding can't produce an area that looks pretty clean. I've had them be done after one car and I've had them last through several.
Using it on the windows is a Good Thing. The windows accumulate crud just like everything else does.
The Meguiars bar works fine. Most of the bars are pretty much alike.
Try cutting the bar into smaller more manageble pieces. I cut my clay magic bars (100g I think) into 4 pieces and use one per car. By the time I'm finished with one car, each piece is pretty much done and I just toss it in the trash. Also, if you drop the clay and it gets dirt imbedded in it (this happens to me every so often), you don't have to throw away a whole bar.
Asking how long a clay bar lasts is like asking how long a can of pepsi will last. It depends on how thirsty you are and how fast you can drink it. I buy my clay in 200 gram bars and I can get a bar to last a year. Considering the number of cars I clay in a year, I would say that it is sufficient. I usually can break of 6 or 8 chunks of clay off a 200 gram bar and one of those chunks will clay at least 2 or 3 cars. Sometimes more depending on the condition of the vehicle. Clay is a good investment.
