How long before...

It depends on the system used. Some people put a glaze over new paint; other systems say don't even wash the car for a month.

If in doubt, wait a month before any waxes or sealants, but check with the paint-er.

judging from your avatar , are you talking about a new car? you don't have to wait at all...only repaints should wait and not all repaints have to wait with some of the better new processes...if it's a repaint then talk to the shop that painted it as it is their work and warranty.

if its a new car i would bring it home, start with a good washing, then clay, polish, and finaly a nice coat of nattys wax. If its a reapint thats a diffrent story. New cars get very contaminated when they are delivered, i know my altima took almost 4 hrs of work from the get go. As mentioned by pb it looks like it is a new car so i would say do the full meal deal. start off right

great! thanks!

It was a 5 series beam with front end damage. The owner told me they replaced the hood without repaint, is that so?! I was assuming they had to repaint or touch up somewhere.

becasue of the large number of cars on the road today companies make extra parts, so he could have bought a pre painted hood, or taken it off another car. So ya he could replace the hood without repainting.

Personally, I wouldn't trust the customer to tell you what was painted and what was not. He may be just assuming that the hood was not re-painted. I say this because if you wax the hood and paint starts chipping off the first person he's going to try to blame is YOU. I would ask what body shop did the work. Then call them, tell them you are detailing the car and ask exactly what was done.
