How is the high price of fuel affecting your lifestyle?

Makes me cringe when I buy premium gas and then I get in my car and drive the pi$$ out of it. I still remember paying $0.20 a gallon and getting 8 MPG from muscle cars.....another words I don't worry about it.

The cost of gas is not nearly as bad as the cost of food but I ain't going to quit eating either.

I spend $300+ a month on gas, and yeah, that's money that could be better spent elsewhere, but what can you do but bend over and take it? Basically it forces me (and probably everyone) to spend less on other consumables (out to eat, clothing, gadgets, etc) every month, than we normally would. All a balancing act....more on gas, less on other stuff....less on gas, more on other stuff. Does it suck? Absolutely!

I don't drive near as much as I used to because of the cost of gas. I can't spend as much on other things anymore because gas eats into my extra money so much. I can no longer make a lot of the impulse buys that I used to because now that money has to go toward fuel.

Look at the retail sales numbers that came out this AM. Pretty poor, and I'm sure the high cost of fuel is a big (but not the only) factor driving it...

"Retail trade sales were down 0.6 percent from January 2008, but were 2.4 percent above last year. Gasoline station sales were up 20.2 percent (±1.0%) from February 2007 "

So, gas sales up 20% (driven by higher prices no doubt), while retail suffers? No shocker, but damn something needs to be done about it! High price of oil is killing the consumer!

I filled up my mower and weedeater last night - $7.00...which is kind of ridiculous. Luckily, my daily driver, and my wife's daily driver both get 30mpg for our work commutes. We have a 4wd SUV that finds itself sitting idle in the garage a lot here lately. I figure we are spending about $180-$200 a month in gas, not including any road trips. Like a poster said earlier, not a lot you can do besides cut back spending in other areas.

The sad part of these high oil prices is that detailing chemicals will definetly rise soon along with shipping costs. That will suck!!!! It will be hard to raise prices or absorb the loss of revenue.:down

as if are economy isn't bad enough, high gas prices makes it even worse. some can barely afford the gas to even drive them where they need to go purchase something... :(

I don't drive anywhere I don't need to be. I now go the speed limit (or 4 miles over) 95% of the time. When my wife returns from Iraq early May I'm back driving the mustang (pimping her 07 Fusion {23.2 mpg}), thats going to cost :(.

souveran, zymol, swissvax and menzerna have all gone up in 2008

Ehh gas prices are going to gas prices. But it might sting alittle when my 01 gets boosted as well then the only thing that I will own is the motorcycle that will get the only good gas mileage.

I find it funny when people gas shop. Is the 5cent difference really gonna make a change?

It's too bad gas prices seem to be based on fear and uncertainty instead of supply and demand. Whenever there is a scare of some sort that could affect the oil supply in a not so direct way, the prices jump. The result--oil companies continue to make record profits...and we pay more for gas.

I sold my GTP which I put premium in and my mpg was pretty poor because of my urge to drive it fast...I was spending $275 a month on gas just going to work and school.

At my age I'd rather be spending my money or saving it rather than using it for gas.

In my opinion if the government was serious about improving the economy instead of the stimulus act they should lower gas prices so we actually have money to spend. Seriously, a one time $300-600 check is probably going to go towards most of our credit card bills which we used for gas anyways...it really won't change our lives or our spending habits.

I just charge more for details. The way I hammer on the 6.2 liter in the Denali, I get about 17 on the highway. Still have the beater to drive to work but that is only 3 days a week. I'd really need to get off of my ashe and sell the beater. It would cost me $500 a year more in gas to drive the truck to work instead of the beater. So in 9 yrs I will break even by keeping the beater. :dig

Why does not anyone cry that the drug companies make 20% profit while the gas companies make 10% profit?

Oh! You don’t have to tell me about that one!!

The price of EVERYTHING has gone up. The necessities such as gas, food, and drugs (prescription of course) have had an effect on me.

Most of my prescription medications moved up a tier or 3. For example what cost me a $40-$60 copay for a 3 month supply last year is now $100. This is on at least 4 medications that I need, if I want to live.

It does really suck as others have mentioned. I used to live pretty comfortably now I find myself watching what’s spent really close. This is on top of trying to put money away since my fiancée and I are getting married in November and we are paying for the wedding.

However I am very fortunate that we have decent jobs and are able to afford what we have. I really feel bad for the people who are struggling so much right now just to pay for the items that are necessary for survival. There are plenty of people going through hard times right now and I’m hoping things get better soon!

Someone has to pay for all the illegals and those to lazy to work to get there free medical. While the retired people get penalized for working and saving most of there life.

The only time I get gas for less is when Bush Baked Beans are on sale. Not George Bush! It's getting so bad here that the illegals are going back and it cost the US Government 10 cents to make a nickel. Sad, but true!:grinno: :sosad
