How is boar hair brush different than oxo synthetic?

Thanks for the links ahains and nice set of cars :)

It will be a little longer but I will probably pick up one of those kracker foamers. I hope I can put a bigger bottle on it.

For the most part I think a quality synthetic brush would work just fine. The flogged tips can break leaving a shaft that isn't as soft. The flogged tips also create a more dense area which will may trap particles of dirt on the ends. It also wouldn't rinse as freely as a boars hair brush. I have used synthetic in the past and own boars hair brushes now. I would expect more marring over time from a synthetic brush than a boars hair brush. With care I'd expect the difference to be very small. I do think more care would need to be used with a synthetic brush than a boars hair brush.

More info on the pressure washer foamers - there are pictures here that show the karcher made foaming attachment versus the autobrite one:

The autobrite one does put out a more impressive froth, but hopefully the karcher will seem "good enough" when it comes.

I decided to try out the oxo brush too so have one of those on the way as well.

I finally tried out the oxo synthetic brush tonight on my car. This is very possibly the first wash my car has had in 2007, so it was quite dirty.

I examined the oxo brush while trying to rinse it clean in the sink (lots of fresh running warm water) and it was very difficult to get all of the particles out.

The brush may be nice and soft, but it is not nearly as clean rinsing as I had hoped. It looks like it is because of how tightly packed together the clusters of bristles are.

Can anyone with a boar's hair brush comment on if they believe that rinses more freely? I'm thinking I may just have to give in and order a boar's hair brush.

On a positive note, I was 100% happy about the foam gun I got from Danase (also tried today for the first time). Much much much better than the Karcher pressure washer foam canon I had try to hack before.

IME BHBs rinse clean incredibly well. Even really nasty stuff seems to come out/off easily. I've worn out a *lot* of various BHBs, but I've never had one that I retired because it retained [stuff].

Currently, my choice for a BHB would probably be the one from Griot's. I need to update my BHB comparison thread when I have time...but getting a good BHB is a little trickier than one might think.

The BHB/foamgun combo is *great*. Spraying the foamgun at the point where the bristles contact the paint not only provides constant lubrication and sudsing, but also flushes away most of the dirt. This can almost elminate the need to stop and rinse out the BHB, at least if the vehicle isn't too dirty.

Hey buddy, what bhb are you using on your wheels right now? I was using the AG one but last time i check they were out of stock with the short handled ones. I want to try a different one.

My AG BHB for wheels has shed so many bristles that it's days are surely numbered! None of these things last forever, but the AG one seemed to die especially fast.

Overall, my fave is the short-handles BHB for wheels from Griot's (pn 92546). I use the round one in their three-brush set (15520) for around lugs and stuff like that.
