How good can you spot fakes?

joyriide1113

There is no cure!
I don't know about the areas where you members may live, but here in Miami, I see about 3-4 fakes a week.

I'mnot talking about boobs, gangsters, or bling. I'm talking about cars. I continuously see fakes on the road. I'm talking about fake:

Mitsu Evo's (regular stock Lancer)

BMW M3's (Many of these, but last week's was a 325ci with nothing changed except the badge. LOL)

Accord V6's (Regular new model; 04,05,06's with only one tail pipe)

Escalades EXT (Chevy Avalanchs)

I'm really more sensitive towards BMW's. My girlfriend and I even have fun looking for them. Today I saw TWO. One BMW 5 series with their badge removed and an M5 badge in its place. Now I know BMW offers the aero kit as an option, but it only includes and "M///" badge... Not an "M5///" badge. On top of that, it had no side vents, and only had a dual exhaust on one side. On the way home from work, really rainy, I see an X5 up a head. As I get closer I see oval tailpipes. Thinking I might wanna roll up and say hi to a fellow 4.8is owner, I start seeing that this isn't even a real X5. Its a KIA... with BMW badging.

Oh and a quick one that will really make you guys laugh is the Porsche Boxster that had a "911 Turbo".

Its not that I'm being snobbish, but its that a lot of these cars are still awesome by themselves. Many already killing a lot of the competition just they way they originally are. By faking badges, it really tells a lot about the owners insecurities...

My girlfriend loves her entry level 325i. Its perfect. When I owned my Mini Cooper Base, I loved it as well. I whored it to everyone for what it was. I never tried adding an "S" badge.

Not really a rant, but something I know many in populated citys have seen. Fun to share.

Joy.

I see the rare 1990 Accord Type R sedan every now and then. lol I always get a kick out of that. Then there are the base model V6 stangs with GTR badges from Auto Zone stuck to them. Not really fakes, but annoying as hell. tacky tacky tacky. I would call them 'rice' but not many people understand that 'rice' is just another word for 'tacky', so I just call it what it is.

Yea those are fun... I don't get mad or anything, but when you see a Porsche Boxster, a car that handles better than 80% percent of cars, is worth about 50k itself, posing as its 40k +more brother is really sad. Makes you wanna revoke the car and give it to a real owner.

These were taken from jimmys540i.com (has a pretty good collection fo these).

These have got to be the worst

And the ever so popular. Mazda miata BMW Z3 conversion kit.

Now thats the worst considering, most Miatas can run with or run laps arounds most Z3's...

Oh well...

I take it as humor at it's best

The one that cracks me up.... is a Honda Element with Hummer badges on it as I got closer it has a "mini H5" on the rear.... i damn near wet my self laughing so hard.

I know what your saying when they make you think it's something it's not... a way of hiding the truth and feel these people are more stasis quo than anything. also known as a caviar taste on a beer ball budget.

I regularly see a 3 series at the city offices with a 540i badge, I've seen many non Type-R Civics/Accords rolling around. I've seen an older 323XI (?) with an M3/// badge, I've seen a LOT of fake Evos and SRt-4's.
I once saw an older Suburban with a Denali front clip. Woulda looked OK I guess but it was done so poorly it was rediculous.

Other than that, daily I see crappy cars with other crappy car badges on them, but that's about it.

There's one car, I GUESS Volvo makes it, but it's an XC90-R...Black 20's with a chrome lip, black grill, everything black. I guess if it had the Volvo I-6 turbo with a few goodies it'd be alright

I understand where you're coming from. I put a SS hood, wheels, etc. on my Camaro Z28 (after hail damage), but I definitely kept the Z28 badges. I've never tried to pass it off or tell anyone that it's something other than a Z28.

Haha! See when it comes to cars like Camaros, and the such, I tend to just avoid them in general. I know nothing about them, other than they are popularly used to drag. I rather avoid a good win, then get my ass handed to me by one fo those...

:bigups same here... I've got a bunch of Denali parts on my Envoy, but I never try to pass it off as one, nor is it badged as such.
