how far does rail dust travel in the air?

Just out of curiosity, how far does rail dust go in the air? I ask because I live about half a mile away from fairly busy train tracks. This question popped into my head a little while ago when I was picking up a new clay bar for some spot claying this weekend.



Completely off topic, I was down by the US Capitol yesterday to watch Reagan's funeral procession, and I overheard a guy mention that a few of those official town cars and caddys could use a bit of polish. Found out he used to finish Rolls-Royces at Crewe a long time ago and we had a nice discussion on the virtues of Autoglym vs. 1Z while we waited. I think everyone around us thought we were nuts, including his wife.
 
I guess it would depend on the weather conditions and the size of the dust. By half a mile I would not be to concerned about a lot of dust.



Rolls Royce trained people - very rare indeed these days, sounds like a good guy to keep in contact with.
 
Hey ,isn't it true that even up to recently only 11 people in the world (!) were trained to craft the RR radiator grille? If so, that's extremely impressive :D
