So I just moved to Connecticut from Las Vegas and I noticed that the paint on my Black Obsidian 06' G35 Coupe has an outrageous amount of swirlmarks and holograming. Being that Vegas is in the desert the problem was that when I would get my car hand washed out there they wouldn't use properly prepped wash mitts and they subsequently rubbed a good amount of sand into the finish. The result is my marred finish. My car looks identical to this car:

So I just spent a lot of time researching on this site and I think I've come up with a solid list of products to get my finish back to perfect. Here is what my shopping cart looks like right now on Autogeek.net:



1. Porter Cable 7424 Polisher

2. Dual-Action Hook & Loop Flexible Backing Plate 5"

3. Menzerna Super Intensive Polish PO 83

4. Orange Light Cutting CCS Smart Padsâ„¢ DA 5.5 inch Foam Pad (For polishing #3)

5. Menzerna Nano Polish PO 106 FF

6. Gray Finishing CCS Smart Padsâ„¢ DA 5.5 inch Foam Pad (For polishing #5)

7. Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze

8 Blue Finessing CCS Smart Padsâ„¢ DA 5.5 inch Foam Pad (For applying #7)

9. Lambswool 6 Inch Leveling Pad (For use with microfiber bonnets buffing #7)

What do you guys think? Am I missing anything here? Is the Klasse a good LSP to use? Also, is it OK to use all of these products to restore my clear bra back to perfect as well?

Looks good. The Klasse is a very good LSP to use if you arent looking to finish with a wax for more depth. I personally dont even use wax anymore, I just use a sealant. I do like the Four Star Products Polymer Paint Sealant better than the Klasse though.
 
Hmm. Maybe I'll buy some Pinnacle Souverän Paste Wax as I'm really going for a deep wet look on my black car!



I forgot to add that I'll be using a clay bar on the car before the polishing begins.
 
You are forgetting about some white pads for step 5 as the gray should be used for applying lsp.I would also look at getting Ultima's upgp as a sealent as it has been great with my red g.

:xyxthumbsI agree, been using UPGP on my G and I tried a lot of sealants. Check out the new 106FA same as 106ff, but less dusting and longer work time. I would also look into 4" pads. The 5.5" pads are ok, but the 4" are better for faster correction. I would forget about the bonnets as most LSPs come off easy. If you use UPGP theres no wiping, just apply and walk away. And dont forget a bunch of quality mf towels. Good Luck!
 
4" pads work much better with the pc. i think it saves a little time as you don't have to spend as much time working an area like you would with the larger pads for the same results.
 
:ideaI did my brothers G with a qucik polish as he stoped by on a roadtrip, I used po106ff, with green pad, then glazed, and FMJ'd used the PC on 5-6 on troble spots.

yes your stuff will work wonders for you, Im not sure on the clear bra thing though, Plexas maybe? anyone tried that on clear bras? OH and Klasse is good stuff, used that before my FMJ (still use klasse too on some apps)



***please keep in mind :idea I rushed to do this If I had more time it would look better, he also didnt want tire shine to fling up on the paint so thats why the tires are kinda crappy looking....
 
Thanks so much for all the advice guys. I really appreciate it. I actually have a bunch of new microfiber towels so that should be all set. I'm also going to clay bar the car beforehand as well. Any suggestion for which brand?
 
I have a black G35 coupe '04. I have tried many different combos. I also think you should move to 4" pads. The reduction in passes and increase in usable power is significant. I probably won't go back to larger pads... ever.

1. Do anyone have any suggestions on what brand of clay to use?

2. Now that I read more do you guys think I should be buying the Ultimate Detailing machine instead of the 7424?

3. How many 4" pads do you typically go through in the in one car? aka How many should I buy?

4. On autogeek they suggest to use a gray pad with the 106FA. Should I be using this or the white as suggested in this post?

1. I just use the clay magic clay available at auto stores.

2. You can always buy bigger and better. I like my PC with 4" pads. I guess it depends on how much you want to spend.

3. I would get 4 of each pad just so that you have some extra. If you want to spend less, get 2 of each.

4. I use Menz FPII on white, which I think is a great finishing polish. I don't know specifically about the nano polish.



I'll just say that I used Intensive Polish and FPII recently on a spring detail of my black coupe and I had two orange and two white pads. It went very easily and turned out very nicely. Just experiment on one 2' x 2' section and see what works. DO NOT go on to the rest of the car without determining what satisfies you on that section. Too many people jump in and do the whole car improperly and get disheartened when the car needs more work. I was guilty of it myself when I first started. Good luck!
