Slick 6MT- I think you accidentally posted this in the wrong forum..it's not really related to starting up a professional detailing business

Your approach sounds OK but note that the Souveran won't last very long.

I wouldn't let the foam dwell on your paint while you do the wheels...by the time you do a good thorough job on four wheels that dwell time would be *very* long.

Good point, I didn't think of this while reading the post. You don't want that foam drying on your paint, that will make rinsing it off more difficult.

sounds like a decent plan, but what is the point of re-washing the car after claying? I would just do a wipe down with a QD again to make sure there is no clay left on the paint.

Eh..I don't do it either, but some people like to and I figure no harm done. Sorta like the Dawn wash and/or taping before polishing with the PC...to each their own :nixweiss

Accum, you just leave what's left of the Sonus Clay lube on your car and go straigth to polishing?

I am assuming if the car did not need polishing, you would remove the clay lube before putting Meg's 16 or Collinite?

I just clay while washing and give it a quick rewash after the claying.

It's been ages since I had to do a *real* clay-job, the kind where it'd take so long I couldn't do it that way. If I did have to do that kind of claying, I'd still just rewash the panels as I finished claying them...I'd never leave any clay/lube residue on there for long.

When I discover some missed/residual [stuff] while drying the car, I'll do a quick spot-clay and then use some QD to clean up. That's about as close as I come to having clay/lube residue issues.

Thanks for all of the responses guys, I truly appreciate it!

What type of wax and/or sealant should I be using that will last a fairly long time? I was under the impression that the Souveran did last quite awhile...

Much as I like Souveran (it's *all* I use on one of my cars), it's actually a *VERY* short-lived wax IME.

If you haven't tried Collinite brand wax, you really, *really* ought to. Their 845 Insulator Wax, or the 476S/885 (same stuff, different size cans), or the 915. You won't go wrong with any of them.

Should I do a layer of Collinite then put the Souveran on top of that?

Thanks again man!

I dunno if you'd see a benefit.

I did that once, spit-shining the Souveran, and I liked the outcome. But somebody else here tried it and the Souveran did some kind of solvent-action number on the Collinite (IIRC he didn't spit-shine it and that could explain why it happened).

So I just dunno what to tell you...but I almost *always* think that if somebody's car does't look good with Collinite, it's not the Collinite's fault (but rather the prep). When you're talking about an improvement from merely adding Souveran, you'd have to have things *awfully* close to perfection for it to ever matter IMO.

Do the Collinite and see what you think.
